    Dewalt Cable Stapler... DCN701

That’s a good point which I neglected to mention. All my power tools are dewalt, so I have the batteries (18 and 54) and chargers, so would only consider the bare tool which is then much cheaper. What do you think of the grinder - thought about getting but didn’t realise it was 54v. My SDS has...

    Dewalt Cable Stapler... DCN701

I would hope so, never seen one in real life. The blurb advises that you can also drives the staples in with a hammer in tight spaces... so maybe not - wouldn't that be ironic...

Using an impact driver - rattler - to tighten MCBs!

Wera adjustable torque screwdriver, works well and many interchangeable bits, ticks all the boxes if someone says how do you know if it's... but it is also yet another thing to calibrate.

    Dewalt Cable Stapler... DCN701

What do we think of this? Tool or toy? Thoughts of the time I spend in lofts... which is a lot. Since these staples only work in wood, it's good for floor joists, lofts or timber frame. How often do I really use clips when routing cable through joists, none only along them. However when I am...

    Minimum electrical certification

Turn this on it’s head for a while. Testing confirms that the device will stop working correctly when there is a fault, not that it works (that’s a functional test tick box). Many fit electrics and seeing that it works feel that’s enough. The certificate needs the test results and MFT’s are not...

    Rcd protection for domestic inatalls.

I should confess, I'm a pretty new Lewden 'fanboy'. but really like Wylex too. The only brand I'm beginning to loath (for CU's) are MK - who should be top. Their boards are rubbish (IMHO) now (for 18th) - everything else they make is great but they are falling behind big time - don't even make...

    Rcd protection for domestic inatalls.

Lewden... fitted a couple so far. Good price, nice quality, loads of room and a spare SPD slot right at the end (longer than the busbar). The only thing I don't like are the square grommets but hey, I'm warming to them.

if I could give one piece of advice - it would be this (type A RCD obviously)...

When testing a circuit protected by RCBO, do you test at the DB or furtherst point

I tried so hard to get that to work but I had a couple of beers... well done. Exactly

    Rcd protection for domestic inatalls.

Sell the RCBO's... we are electricians and we know what is right. Split load boards belong in the 80's. Things have changed, DC leakage current / electronic equipment. I don't compete with the flooding of the market with £60 complete (split load AC RCD's) boards. Explain the difference - give...

    CRL risk asseament.

@essex is correct, but I doubt you will find anything that 'passes' and doesn't need one. I've given up and just sell the SPD - they are under £60. It's not the calculation, it's the documentation of the the customer refusing (NAPIT now have a special form for this) to cover your/their arse. At...

When testing a circuit protected by RCBO, do you test at the DB or furtherst point

I think when AFDD's, RCD's and MCB's are combined in one unit - that's all we'll be able to do. AFRCBO's? and then throw in an SPD somewhere.

    Qualify first or get experience?

Totally agree. if you love it then qualify.

When testing a circuit protected by RCBO, do you test at the DB or furtherst point

I always test at the furthest point with RCBO's, just do.

    Messed up order.

Returns are a nightmare - especially since screwfix is the default store at the weekend when the job is urgent, a priority and being fitted now! To rush from site to Screwfix and back, fitting and then... finding a problem is a royal pain! I now check everything in store before leaving.

Good point and well presented. ;)

    Kitchen ceiling lights fire rating

Here's a thought... What does 'Fire rating' actually mean - there is no symbol on the unit (say a downlight) describing the fire rated properties (perhaps the box is marked or sold as 'fire rated'). There is little [manufacturers] information about how long it's fire rated for, so installing in...

    Messed up order.

Open weekends - so Screwfix will always get my custom. The prices are fixed and not a mystery from certain wholesalers (except cable which is well expensive). Always check the order whether from Screwfix or wholesaler - type AC RCD inside a box marked A (Wylex), Cracked MK surface box, Tower...

    I Phone or Android

They are in essence all the same but for the look and feel (not design or flair - whatever but how you have gotten used to it) - They are just manufacturers making money. I've always used Apple from the first iPhone I am embedded in that particular walled garden - including the use of a iMac and...

What do you call the plug with no name?

Trade names work when there is only one market leader, Hoover, Sellotape - etc. Otherwise it gets confusing as the above comments prove. In the RAF WD40 was called Rocket - because years previously it was originally made by a company called... Rocket. Now everyone calls it WD40 - even if it's...
