    Kitchen ceiling lights fire rating

You would therefore think that a downlight would have BS476... on it somewhere.

    Kitchen ceiling lights fire rating

Found this in a couple of places: Basically, to test it we have to burn it and see what happens! In order for luminaires to be certified fully fire rated they must comply with Building Regulations BS476-22 http://www.safety-managementuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/BS-476-22.pdf

    MK consumer unit SPD's

Why? Explain your thinking. I’m always up for a bit of interpretation. ;)

    Kitchen ceiling lights fire rating

Agree. Perfect but you would have thought this fire rated ability would have its own mark!

    Kitchen ceiling lights fire rating

That’s a good question. I fitted some recently and they were marked on the box and leaflet as fire rated but can’t see any relevant markings on the lamp fitting itself!

    MK consumer unit SPD's

I need to agree that the domestic 'get out' for SPD fitting is fraught with danger (for us). We should fit them. I agree that we don't need to fit under the domestic [value] clause but NAPIT are advising that refusal (by the customer) is listed on the cert. If a surge does happen and the...

    Moving to radials in Kitchens

I've been using 4mm radial more recently but it's not a silver bullet due to C factors mentioned earlier. I've also started putting the washer dryer circuit on a ring - which is effectively 5mm - perfectly balanced and no sockets - just the connection units for both. If using MCBs on 4mm I...

    Part F - PEATA certification?

    This is good stuff! Thanks.

    Part F - PEATA certification?

That's my question really Pete. I missed the earlier thread pointed out by @SparkyChick and catching up with it. At first I thought the email was suspect and maybe the company is but compliance with Part F is required and whatever test equipment is needed is another drain on the resources if...

    Part F - PEATA certification?

All I've been getting emails recently from Home - PEATA - Professional Extraction Airflow Testers Alliance - https://www.peata.org.uk Anyone needed to provide flow rate certificates for a bathroom extractor? This is new to me and I assume others here are getting these emails too - thoughts?

    Realistic call out price?

I always charge a higher rate for the first hour and then hour rate after that. The first hour could be by notice given, so no notice is higher than a weeks notice. Either way, publish or document the charges and display on your website - paperwork. Then everyone knows and it’s no surprise. I...

    18th edition board requirements ?

I agree with your view, certainly for any circuit with socket outlets. It depends on the circuits of course - immersion, non dimmer / LED lighting - conventional loads could remain on type AC but I would only consider this where say the cost of RCBO's wouldn't justify the cost.

SPD requirements for additions and alterations.

Here is my take, you are correct in your understanding. However, I would probably consider asking the customer and completing the calculation for an existing installation if the customer was on TT. Even for a new board change, the customer can choose not to - make sure you document this decision...

    Testing whilst quoting?

Bear with me a sec @essex I agree with you for a large company (with a boss) but for a sole trader I'm with the OP. This sudden change can just upset the customer, put mildly. I always say on the quote that it's subject to testing and point that out at the time - this might need extra work...

What’s going on with this radial

I’m getting the feeling this might be a final ring broken into 2 radials - but maybe not correctly. Do you see 2 radials that could have been a ring. What you are describing doesn’t make sense. It’s factual and correct but nonsense at the same time. Your further investigation is crucial. This...
