There’s a guy around my area, that is with any CPS, it he still does ‘notifiable’ work, but goes back a week later and carry’s out a full EICR for the customer, he’s been doing this for years and the LABC have never said a word about him or done anything.
EV chargers are “notifiable jobs’ as they need their own circuit, are you a member of a CPS scheme? Do you have an MFT that can test EV chargers? I personally don’t do ’mates rates’, causes too many issues further down the line, if I don’t do the job, they’ll have to pay full price anyway.
Agreed if you fit a new 3 pin plug, I don’t like the moulded plugs personally, as I can’t inspect the cable connections inside, but,if you then hardwire it, you’re going against manufacturers instructions.
If the manufacturer recommends/states its ok to use a 13amp plug, then that’s what you do, always follow the manufacturers instructions, then you’re covered, cut the plug off and wire it differently, then you’ve voided the warranty and ‘IF’ anything does go wrong, then you’re to blame.
You could always just pay your LABC fee, anywhere from £100-£400, dependant on where you live, if it‘s a one off notifiable job, then this fee will be les than a CPS joining fee and MUCH less than paying someone else to notify for you.
They get way with it because the LABC’s are too busy to do the necessary checks, there’s an Eastern European guy around my area who advertises on Facebook and quotes £250-£350 for a board change, but if you want the certificates, he charges an extra £250 plus, so obviously most of his clients...
You should never, ever pull the main fuse, unless its a matter of urgent life or death situation. During my training, my tutor showed us a video of a test facility, where they pulled the main fuse with a special machine and the carrier had an unseen crack in it, so as it was pulled, the...
Technically you should notify your LABC before you start the job, most are ok with this and woN’t ask you pay up front, but some do unfortunately, if you pass your assessment, you then have 30 days from the date you completed the work to notify via your CPS provider. NICEIC/Elecsa accept a...
So, you post a question on a forum, asking for other electricians opinions on whether they would give a C2 or C3, then when they say that they’ll give it a C3, you get the hump with them! So you’ll take the opinion of someone over the phone, who is most likely reading from a script and might...
There’s no proof that it wasn’t installed by a time served professional electrician, I’ve come across a few DIY CU installs that look better than YouTube guys like Thomas Nagy, DSS, nick Bundy etc, just no paperwork, yet on the other hand I’ve seen installations done by time served electricians...
When you collected the van or initially inquired about it, didnt they go through all this with you? If they didn’t, I’d be asking myself why, all lease companies, regardless of what you’re leasing are legally obliged to fully outline what their returning conditions are and MUST make this...
3rd party certifiers are rip offs, I contacted one in my area (Surrey) and he quoted; first fix visit £250, 2nd fix visit £250 and £40 to test every circuit, minimum charge of 10 circuits, total £900 min, plus VAT, it’s actually cheaper to pay the LBC fee. Said I can test all the circuits, NO...
