    discrimination conundrum

Hello to all, Have just completed an EICR for a client of mine who would now like me to do the remedial work. I've hit a problem with the design of the job. Part of the work will involve a new CU with RCDs and possibly a couple of RCBOs The CU is remote from the meter position and is fed via...

    C & G 2396 experiences

Wow! the exam sounds like a beast! I suppose it depends on the college or training centre but did you find the classroom tuition good/helpful? Or is it a case of - here are the scenarios, there's your regs book and guidance notes, off you go, get on with it? I might have to do some swatting up...

    Electrical Safety Register:

No difference. Although at least it sounds relevant compared to the latest initiative from NICEIC meant to capture consumers' attention called 'registered competent person electrical'. Hardly a catchy slogan for the public or businesses to remember when searching for an electrician/contractor...

Dougb, maybe you could start a thread here in the electricians unite forum. Briefly explain your position/plans and where you're based. You never know someone might be interested in giving you a start. Either way, good luck

    C & G 2396 experiences

Thanks for your view, it sounds good. I've found a local course for £850 + vat plus £50 exam fee. Might be on the expensive side but it only 5 mins from home. They mention a 40 hour project. Is 40 hours a realistic timescale? Thanks again

    C & G 2396 experiences

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share their experience of the 2396 course please? Have you found it useful for your work and why? Did you enjoy it? Would you recommend it. I'm considering having a go, not that I need it necessarily but fancy a challenge and hope it...

recommendation for time controller to operate a contactor

Yes, that is a good idea. Might do that. Had several debates with the chap who manages the building about others fiddling with the timer etc. Anyway, thanks for your help. off for a run now. :)

recommendation for time controller to operate a contactor

Thanks TJ. I was thinking about that. Just a bit paranoid as there have been 2 failed timers here already. I suppose heating programmers are suitable for small inductive loads, being as they usually control motorised valves etc.

recommendation for time controller to operate a contactor

Hello hello, Wondering if anyone can recommend a timer to control a small contactor please. This is an existing job where the existing timer keeps playing up, I've replaced it once before. The 3 phase contactor it controls is switching some heaters in a hall. The existing timer is a Timeguard...

Single phase supply from a 3 phase meter question

Thanks for replying Howard. Apologies, I didn't make that clear. When I say check meter I mean a 3 phase meter installed on the consumers side of the installation, to enable the energy consumption of part of an installation to be monitored separately from another. The reading from this meter is...

Best practice choice for a CU?

That set up sounds okay to me. I often provide a choice to customers of an RCBO board (main switch and individual RCBOs for each circuit) or 17th edition dual rcd type. Despite the cost they often go for the former with the reduced disruption in event of fault. I hope the original contractor...

    Additional socket/spur required.

The 6mm would be fine to use as separate radial circuit, properly protected by RCBO or whatever and labelled at the DB. Also as mentioned above appropriately glanded both ends. Sounds easier than coming from the factory ring circuit which by the sounds of it is a long tricky run away, If I...

Single phase supply from a 3 phase meter question

Hello, Just wondered if I could pick some brains please. This might seem like a basic question to some but I am wondering there would be any problem with using just one phase from a 3 phase check meter? I'm doing some work in a warehouse which is being divided into 2 units. one unit will be...

lighting circuits - just for lights????

This would be ideal except it's 20ft away from where they want it. This Honeywell evo home kit is quite new, what you get is a controller that goes in say the living room from where you can control every single radiator separately, as each radiator has an RF thermostatic valve. The controller...

The Honeywell evo home units DO plug in. I assume you have not come across them.
