1st off they asked if i would do any work for them. ive done a couple of callouts for them in the past, they're practically my neighbours so they TRUST me (very important to elderly folks).
I told them that they dont HAVE to do anything. but to replace the consumer unit would be an...
Hi orac77
I saw that program, different company although same region, dont want to mention names to be on the safe side. but yeah same kind of idea. im all for improving safety but scareing old ladies is a bit off really.
Sorry, long post..
Hi all just wanted to get a few opinions if poss.
An elderly (80s) couple round the corner from me were approached by a company who suggested they should have a "free electrical safety check". They went ahead with this. When the chap came around and did the visual only...
Thanks so far, the customer has now told me that the focus is on using tiles. so I will base the design on this.
Ive always used DEVI in the past, any other good products out there worth a look at?
Thanks again
Hi all!
Ive been asked to quote for a largeish electric underfloor heating job. The guy hasnt decided on the floor finish yet, it will depend on cost of system to some extent so have to give a few options to begin with.
This is just for one room
Ok the room is 9m x 5.5m = 49.5square metres...
You sound a bit on the cheap side mate. I think every now and then youre just going to get these come.
a year or 2 ago i priced up some alterations on a bungalow most circuits were to be worked upon and many having cables buried in the wall. There was no RCD protecion existing so i suggested...
Cost isnt the deciding factor, i guess id like to try and make life easier dont mind the extra pounds if it helps me. one feature i like the idea of is being able to print an exrta circuit schedule off to keep beside a consumer unit. easy and quick is important if its possible that is :)
Hey!
Ive always used the NCR hand written certificates and reports but am wondering if i might benefit form using the computer generated ones.
just wondered what others do and any pros and cons for either..
reason ive stuck with had written so far is that i can complete and issue certs on...
I know its a bit late in this instance, but i understand that AVO do very reliable and stable meters. i use a fluke 1652 at the mo and that can be a bit random at times.
fair point! and for the purposes of an assesment it is best to not have anything for an assesor to flag up. In reality the RCBO or RCD will break well within the max disconnection time regardless of the Zs being a tad high.
Havent got a metrel so dont know how helpfull i will be. ive found a good way of zeroing leads is to use a piece of copper pipe and keep it in your metre case/box. zero your leads onto this. R1 and R2 is a continuity test.
It definately sounds interesting work. but as you say for a sole trader, which i am, its going to be hard to compete and it sound like theres ALOT of paperwork to do.
Hi mad frankie
Yes i have read your posts in this thread. it is interesting to hear the costs involved. my question was for those who are have actually been trading in this field for a while; have they found it a worth while investment either financially or rewarding in other ways? Sorry if...
Just out of interest. Is this line of work worth the investment in time, money, hard work? Do you enjoy doing this now instead of other electrical work done previously or is it better financially? Tell me to bog off if you think im being cheeky by asking, it would just be usefull to know before...
speaking to 2 mechanics the other day, i asked what van i should get next, they recommended transit and said anything by renault is S**t. Ford parts very reasonably priced and good quality support available apparently. Not true for renault!
