Do some research and get to know the basics but I'd expect the interview to be more involved with working at heights and the safety aspect of things you'd be quizzed on. Have you got a NRSWA qualification at all?
I think sometimes people need to advise trainees how to do something by coaching them correctly when they take a task on rather than physically telling someone this is how it's done by showing them. Do you think you're a bit clumsy? Why exactly has your mentor said this?

I'd use a multi tool to cut off the tongue and groove in a not too obvious place and gain access that way. Start on a Friday afternoon to get your access to boxes sorted then use the weekend to do the fault finding if necessary.
