    H.V. Ring Main

My youngest is a dno hot glove technician who works on the 11 and 33kV networks (South West). He advises that the 33kV is a ring but the 11kV is an open ring so that different sections can be isolated to work on causing the minimum of disruption to the distribution network. Being an SAP and...

    Underwater lighting?

3 pictures which illustrate the reflection issue. What you can see in each is the reflection of a large stone placed across the top which had some very large bits of slate resting on it which was put there presumeably when it was covered over. The lattice work is the reflection of the frame for...

    Underwater lighting?

Thankyou for that. I have been in touch with Collingwood who are intrigued which is very promising, especially the bit about combining any lighting with UVc light

    24V dc lighting circuit

Thanks for the reply. I have access to EnerSys Powersafe SBS C11F batteries removed from ups systems, they have about 10 years of anticipated life in them. Converting from dc from solar pv to ac for a power supply which then converts back to dc seems unecessary. Also the cost of the psu is a...

    24V dc lighting circuit

I am having a flat roof constructed with solar panels over. As it is a cold, vented flat roof I will be having 175mm of Cellotex insulation immediately above the ceilings which I am reluctant to dig into to fit downlights (which I have never been the world's biggest fan of anyway). My thoughts...

    Underwater lighting?

That is something that I hadn't considered and changes my perspective on things. I can see that we are going to have to keep the environment as sterile as possible so my thoughts about ventilating the underside of the glass to stop condensation are out the window.

    Underwater lighting?

Didn't realise that shillet was a local term, perhaps shale like is a more recognisable description. The water permeates through the shillet on it's journey to the sea (I am coastal) and our well interrupts this journey and acts as a big store. We think we have approx 5-8 tonnes of water

    Underwater lighting?

Thanks for this. Our well is a bit different, it is a lot bigger, the lining is amazing craftsmanship (especially as it was built from the top down) and our water level is a lot higher. However the video did illustrate the reflections from the surface of the water hence my thoughts about...

    Underwater lighting?

Whilst having some building work done we discovered a stone lined well under our new kitchen floor , It is 25' deep and hand dug (through shillet) we think in the 1600s. Water level is about 4' down and the water is crystal clear. It is quite an amazing extraordinarily well built thing which...

    Acceptable departure?

Thanks for the replies. It was the sort of question where you know the answer but was hoping that because an rcd was tripping on the 150mA test, that would be sufficient. It is one of those jobs turning a bit sour and just want to be done with it, will return there tomorrow

    Acceptable departure?

Been working at a large property with a tt system with a 100mA upfront rcd. Works undertaken in 2012 (inc 3 x split load cu replacements) were not documented and not done to an acceptable standard, I am encouraging the customer to seek redress. When testing my additions the 5 x trip test is...

Testing during a consumer unit change

I do similar ish. As a rough guide on a £350 board change I will agree a non-refundable £150 worth of testing, sufficient for me to be certain that I will not have any ir issues and that the circuits connected are continuous (RFCs) and cpcs on radials (Zs all points). Also look for borrowed...

Distance between Gas and Electric box caravan site

There is (or was in 2011) a gas reg BS 6891:2005+A2:2008 Installation of low pressure gas pipework in domestic premises, clause 8.16.2 which states distances of 150mm from electricity meters etc. Maybe a good place to start looking

    "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

SBS do a 12 module x 2 (2 rows of din rails) measuring 279w, 465h and 110d. Haven't used one but would imagine that having one rail for normal and one for off peak would be possible
