    Review of EICR

I do feel for you. You expect a registered electrician to be competent and take some pride in their work. There has already been alot said about the report, so nothing to add. I agree, it is awfully written and incorrect in many places. I would talk to my neighbours to get word of mouth...

Coding for earths wrapped around each other?

Could you go into a little more detail please, you haven't quite persuaded me. :-) Edit... I can't see your regulations in bs7671?

Coding for earths wrapped around each other?

Could I ask if you ever did this in the past Westward? Genuine question as I believe you were around back in the olden days ;-) (could get a temporary ban for that). But it really is a genuine question. Was it common place, even amongst good electricians to terminate the earths this way?

Coding for earths wrapped around each other?

Hello all.. I have just completed an EICR. The earths for the ceiling lights are wrapped around each other (neatly and well, numerous times) and sheathed in old green sheath. They are then poked up into the ceiling void. This is obviously all wrong nowadays, but I can't decide if it's a C2 or...

    Which VDE screwdriver set?

I remember do a poll on this year's ago.. https://www.electriciansforums.net/threads/which-make-of-vde-screwdriver-do-you-think-is-the-best.96625/

    Class 2 light fitting

Crikey, that's a pretty rough design. Well done for refusing to fit it. Basic insulation shoved under the floorboards! A small nick on the basic insulation and it comes into contact with a non earthed piece of metal... scary design. I wonder how it can have a CE marking? I know nothing...

Rat chewing cables in loft, what would you advise the customer?

I would have gone along and fixed the immediate problem so that their electrics are not tripping. Chances are you will see a number of chewed cables up there, so be careful. I would then tell the customer to get the rat problem sorted. I would then return, properly assess the damage and have a...

    Which holesaw drill bits ?

    Consumer unit

Hi Colin. I will definitely be of the camp to say a definite no to this. We can't possibly determine your competence to open up a consumer unit, after a few words written on the net. There could be a number of dangerous problems that could occur if you do this. I can't actually see any 30mA RCD...

What is your hourly rate as a self employed electrician? (2024-25)

Update on averages... The mean average hourly wage is now £46.94. This is based on 31 votes. A population of 31 is far too low for any meaningful stats, so just a bit of fun. Would be nice to get it to 100 votes, but I think this is extremely unlikely. I think last year's poll capped at around...

Is my rewire price in the right area?

Doesn't sound really cheap, or too expensive. I expect a bit closer to £10k would still be ok.

What is your hourly rate as a self employed electrician? (2024-25)

@Yellowhammer bit odd to dislike this post? I can understand disliking many of my other posts, but this was a rather non descript one to dislike :D I'd be interested in your reasoning.

Average price for an EICR? Another poll! Please read post before voting.

I'm going a bit poll crazy at the moment. I love polls! This one is just a bit of fun. It's obviously very inaccurate and there will be many variations on price, but... Lets just ask 'What price would you charge for an EICR on an average 2-3 bed house'? No outbuildings, one consumer unit (10...

EICR - Certificate, do I need to change my CU?

You can tell you worked in a legal role. Your posts are like reading BS7671. Although they make less spelling errors ;)

EICR - RCD Wont trip on test button

Argh....! We need IR figures, not 'it tests ok'. Now we're all thinking 'I bet there was a N-E fault. 😅
