    Electrical Commissioning

Unfortunately commissioning comes with experience. I have done both pre commissioning and commissioning. Oil game is pretty much knackered at the minute with the low and fluctuating oil prices. Back in the day commissioning guys were on 800 a day plus. A must for any commissioning tech is being...

    Bootlace crimps / cutters

Lol, when the company buys them no skin of my nose ;) Unfortunately that crimp is non Atex certified being battery powered and useless where I work! Trusty Knipex hasn't let me down yet!! Though must admit it would be handy when connecting panels in the switch room!

    ECS Gold card reverse

Agreed, it's not about what's on your card but what you can do with your hands / head. Met plenty of sparks who's CV dosen't match what they can do onsite. Most notably one compex spark who nearly ruined a 200 meter run of 7 core attempting to fit a compound barrier gland - incorrectly! He...

    Anyone on here done 2396?

Worth doing if you can find the time. Not sure I would enjoy designing to 18th with the new changes. Pick a good centre is my advice. The one I used was sh!#€. Learned more on my own with the Design book. Exam is tight but a good brain work out if anything.

    Compex Training Advice Available

Yes, as this will likely be indirect entry. Eg Ex d housing and Ex e terminals. As long as the equipment has IIC on the certificate plate then it can be used in the area.

    Compex Training Advice Available

I have never came across a light fitting that is Ex e increased safety tbh. You need to confirm the gas group for the fitting. If it was a Ex de IIC isolator, then yes this could be used in a IIC area. However the isolator may not require a barrier gland as it is of hybrid protection. Typically...

Whats the protection type for the fitting? Ex d, Ex de, Ex dem? If the fitting was direct entry Ex d in a IIC area then should have a barrier gland fitted. More info needed.

And while you are there tie the stator down to earth as well :) Is it a DOL starter? Bit of a beast, a nice Soft Start should prolong life.

    Compex Training Advice Available

If you do get the asset register and inspection sheets, I would recomend you sample some of the lights, especially the glands. I have come across plenty of rigs/skids that have just came out of the shipyard where stevie wonder must have carried out the inital inspections ! Lol

Has the contractor used the correct cable glands? Are they installed correctly? Have they double pole isolation for those circuits as well?

    PLC for a beginner

No redundancy features such as slave CPUs etc. Reliability has not been an issue. They are of course all on a UPS power supply system.

    PLC for a beginner

We have a lot of HMIs around the site which aid troubleshooting without having to go into the programme sometimes if a skid is alarming as low pressure etc The online diagnostics are also very good in GX works. There is a simulator to run programmes to debug offline if required.
