    spd in meter box?

Wylex do a tail isolator with type 2 SPD that's rated at 100A so no need to fuse down. This is what I would use just make sure you get your supply and load around the right way round.

    What torque bit.... Contactum rcbo

Not sure what it is but alot of manufacturers RCBOs have strange screw heads. I tend to use a flat head screwdriver in these too.

    Occasional mystery trip

I have had something very similar, actually it was a call out last Christmas. Turned out to be a faulty cable supplying the boiler... The boiler was wired in T&E a service engineer had been out the month before and changed a pump, he had also trapped the cable between the casing, ot started it...

    Best Consumer unit for home

I like the Electrium consumer units but the cost is still higher then others. For my house I'd probably go for a Hager with built in SPD. The SPDs in the Hager consumer units are rated at 100amp so don't require any additional OCPD. However as it's a TT I'd be inclined to change the Main switch...

    Lucien Nunes Electrical Engineer Extraordinaire

Lucien was someone I genuinely looked up to and admired. His incredible knowledge and enthusiasm for all things electrical never failed to amaze me. The impact he had on those he chatted with on here and his various other groups is truly remarkable, and is a testament to the kind of person he...

Two RCBOs tripping together, no cross-connection. Need help…

If I were to guess id say there is a low resitance between both L&N to earth on one of the circuits.. quite often the circuit effected wont trip as the imbalance is shared (both L&N) so the coil on the rcd wont trip.. it can creep ect other unrelated RCDs. Though...

Cable missing in central heating wiring

There is another product I've used a few times called Mains Switch - RF Switch for Wireless Control of HVAC pumps controlled by Boilers. - https://mainsswitch.co.uk/

How do I comply TT system

I really only mentioned specifically putting the SPD in a separate enclosure if a Type 1 SPD is required, which it may not be. 1) it's much easier to terminate, type 1 spds require a min conductor size of at least 16mm as they are expected to take a hit from direct lighting strikes, trying to...

    Firestick tv problem

How old is the TV? it sounds like the Firestick is most likely trying to get the EDID data from the TV (Google EDID) each time it boots up. If it can't get the data the TV will flicker and eventually the Firestick will boot at a low resolution. First thing I would try is disabling CEC in the...

    An EICR on domestic property

For a start you didn't order the works so there's no obligation to pay. And you of course need a copy of the EICR you can't charge someone something and not produce the goods. Tell the letting agent you want a copy of the EICR, whatever the outcome, pass or fail, this report should be filed...

    ECS card arggggghhhhhhhh.

You wouldn't have.. I had the same but I did get a certificate stating I completed my apprenticeship but the JIB wouldn't accept it. I had to email my old training provider (JTL) a form and someone there signed it and emailed it back to me. Apparently you could get your old firm who you trained...

Any recommendations for a simple CCTV and alarm system to fit?

I have also had bad experiences with Swann. We only fit Hikvision NVR and Poe cameras now and haven't had any problems. I agree with Dartlec though the Hikconect app isn't the best. If I were fitting at my own house I'd fit these at least you could learn how it works. Another good brand of CCTV...

    Frost stat connection

You dont want to be opening valves its just to stop the pipes freezing. as Avo says Frost stat turns on the boiler on when its cold then pipestat turns boiler off once pipes are warmed up, so the pair need wiring in series. Connect between perm L- and boiler sw live. Orange is usually...

    Amendment 2 BS7671 again

We just have to do the best we can. And use our engineering judgement like PC1966 said. To be honest there are so many issues arise now, by just adding a circuit to an existing installation especially if you follow BS7671. Whichever way you look at it, if a problem arises later your be...

Condu-lok , the evolution of fitting tube

I can see the advantages of this especially if your adding to and existing system, but I really don't see that much of an issue with threading. I had to do some Galv the other day and threading it was effortless, that was using a cheap TLC stock and die set too.

Best (Or least bad) CPS to join as a sole trader

My old firm used to be NICEIC, and the accessor was a bit of a knob, if you ever asked a technical question he would try shut you down without actually answering the question. When i setup my own buisness I decided ot go with Napit and they have been fine. with CPD you can just keep a record...
