    I believe in the on site guide it does show the black as common and brown as L1. I might be wrong, I know I've seen it in one of the regs books.

    Not a problem, you just connect it to L1 and L2 of the same cable, it makes no difference. Look at the diagram, follow the wires And you'll see what I mean.

    Try this. It's all on there You need a 2way switch at each end and a intermediate switch in between. You can add as many intermediate switches as you like providing you have a 2way switch at each end.

    They probably haven't told you the whole story, someone's probably fiddled with the wiring in the switch for whatever reason. It seems impossible for the RCD to stay on as that is a permanent connection and is not switched providing its wired correctly. Main rule for me is "never trust a...

    How many circuits are controlled by that RCD. If it trips randomly it could be that the total leakage to earth is more than 30mA, that would explain why it trips when plugging into different sockets etc. I had exactly the same happening on a few occasions in domestic installations.
