    How to supply hottub

If you were trying to mitigate the effect of a PEN fault on a PME supply then you would not connect the earth rod to the earth from the CU but instead make the hot tub a TT island

Adapting a 3 phase industrial machine to single phase

It looks like there is enough space inside the machine for modifications which is handy You would need to replace the 3 phase motors as they require 3 phases 120 degrees apart in order to turn, they work differently to other motors and have a set of windings for each phase, its the phase...

EV chargers and TN-C-S supply earthing general hassle

Yes, but inside a house you are in an equipotential environment and anything metalic bringing in true earth from outside is bonded so will rise in potential along with the radiator and dishwasher etc, There is a risk for things like outside lights (although not often touched) but definitely...

    RCBO energy consumption

I have not noticed RCBOs are warm all of the time, and i am often using large distribution units with over 100 rcbos in and for some shows half of then wont be used, i would say those are at room temp

Did it really need an earth?

Very good point Although if it was installed to a previous edition of bs7671 and met the previous standard and was not being altered etc then could you argue nothing needed to be changed

    Garden Hot Tub safety !

Personally for sure I would have made the tub TT (and possibly the shed just for easy of installation), I would have the tub protected by a 10mA rcd and a 30mA rcd in line with each other But then again I do have my outside lights TTed

    Garden Hot Tub safety !

Exactly I always put 2 RCDs in line on any TT even if its just for a lamp post , then you have back up for RCD failure

    Floating Earth Generator advice needed

The voltage read outs are exactly as to be expected from an inverter generator as they work in a similar way to reduced low voltage for building sites etc, so the generator seems to be working fine: It seem as if the problem might be in the catering unit or perhaps the cable from the generator...

    Higher amps in my garage

Thats not the point of a cee-form connector "commando" and the 13A plug has a fuse in for that reason, That connector has many uses with a higher IP rating than a 13A plug, Live events uses mostly cee-form connectors from 16A to 125A and many jumpers which go from a lower amperage male to...

    EV Charging post AMD2

On a video from David Savery when he installed an EV charger, he went on a little rant about why PEN faults are not an issue for EVs, due to the charger points CPC not being bonded to the cars body/chassis but instead the DC battey ground is bonded the car body/chassis and there is isolation...

    EV Charging post AMD2

I I too am on a crusade against TNCS but it would be very interesting to know the exact figures and if there has been very little problem interesting to know why that is. To me its a rubbish system only implemented to save money, and with when with some resistors wired in a star configuration...

    EV Charging post AMD2

Why would that distort the figures as an open PEN is dangerous with or without an RCD, the RCD will do nothing if you have an open or high impedance PEN conductor fault

Need a really basic / cheap MFT for rough use

Does it need to do non-trip loop tests? And could they be separate units? A few months ago i needed a small and "dont mind getting damaged" loop tester but only high current tests, i picked an older martindale unit up on ebay for £20

Need a really basic / cheap MFT for rough use

Do the KT63 do a ramp test?, I have looked at then due to being more compact than my fluke and couldn't see ramp setting on the dial unless you get to it another way I believe socket and see and kewtech have the same testers just different colours and re-branded, so might be cheaper from...

Internet in Garage - Powerline Issues

All of the network over power adaptors i have used use live conductors, i have had success using TP link ones from a house to a remote building with TT and no earth connection between them a few times But thats not to say that they all work like that, it would be interesting to know
