Help! Which LED driver do I need

Thank you That definitely makes more sense. We are sure that the voltage stated on the light fitting is definitely not for the light fitting though? 😅 Not in insulation. But yeah 12w light for a 8-12w transformer could be the issue.

I thought this too. I found the LED lights online though and they are pictured with transformers even though it states the same input voltage as the one in the picture...

Help! Which LED driver do I need

Hey all. Have a client who’s LED downlights keep breaking after 6 months or so. I didn’t put them in originally. I looked the details on the lights and the transformers and they don’t seem to match. But I can’t find anything to match the light as the input current is 300ma and voltage is...

    Underground/buried connection

Hello all I have been called out to quote for a garden job where the builder has run a 6mm armoured cable out to the garden, it's not long enough for it's final destination though and so I want to connect onto it, extend it and bury it. Never having buried an outside joint before what is a good...

    Trailing edge versus low voltage

Thank you, on that basis that's what I'm going to go for, nice to be able to sell a product that you can't pick up from the local screwfix or toolstation branch for future clients xD I'd be able to use the 1.5mm twin and earth for a future changeover then and then just change the dimmer type.

    Trailing edge versus low voltage

Is there a brand that you use with reasonable prices? Also which cable should I run for the 0-10v setup? Don't have the money at the moment but may just get all the low voltage cable in position when installing the mains voltage lights so I can change over in the future.

    Trailing edge versus low voltage

Hi and thanks very much for the reply, really useful. Would you pretty much just not use dimmable LED on a trailing edge switch? Or they do have decent functionality, just not for fairly low light levels? What brand/product do you use yourself? The going rate seems to be £100 per a light when...

    Trailing edge versus low voltage

I'm an electrician but know jack about LED lighting. Buying my first home and thought that this is a could time to learn, but seems a little more complex than I first thought. So the plan was just to use 230v dimmable LEDs (Luceco EFTE45BS30) with trailing edge dimmers. But then the more high...

RCD for boiler replacement? When is an RCD NEEDED?

When does an installation NEED an RCD? I thought that all new circuits need one but I now believe that I am mistaken. Regulation 411.3.3 for socket outlets up to 32amps and regulation 411.3.4 for lights. Then for special locations like bathrooms. If the cables are less than 50mm deep into the...

    15cm high consumer unit

A client of mine wants a board change but it's in a really tight spot! The exising board in 25cm wide and 15cm tall with 5 circuits. So 5 rcbos + mains witch will suffice. Anyone know a brand that would fit? 18cm tall is probably the largest it can go thanks v much

Supp bonding needed with RCD + testing supp bonding

Aha thank you for the correction. I have ordered the book now too. Do you have a hypothetical situation where supplementary bonding would be required in a domestic bathroom even though there are RCDs and MCBs installed on every circuit correctly. For example if there is 3000ohms resistance...

Supp bonding needed with RCD + testing supp bonding

Hello there all, I'm a fairly newly qualified electrician and have been doing more and more EICRs lately, if someone could actually trawl through my long question and answer it then I shall be eternally grateful I have tested 3 electrical installations in the last week with no RCD devices, all...

    Mis wording in guidance 3

Aha I think I've got it. The supply is the light source or plug socket supplying light or power to the user. I was incorrect in thinking of the supply as from the incoming cable into the property. At least I bloody well hope that's it, thank you guys
