    I couldn't agree more! I would never consider connecting 3P+N+E socket without connecting the neutral, even if its usual intended use was to supply equipment which didn't use neutral. It may be needed some day. As Lucien points out BANGS & SMOKE could be the result.

    So they cannot change the tariff 'at will', only within the agreed times. Electricity costs vary throughout the day so if that is the tariff you choose then so be it. I choose to have a fixed tariff therefore I pay the same for every kWh I use until the end of my contract. Why choose a tariff...

    So those consumers who do not have a smart meter will be subsidising those that do. As for the 'visible' extra costs, the one I have uses <1watt, so if I leave it on continuously it will cost less than £1.35/year, but then you don't have to use it at all.

    Do you know of a supplier or have an example of a supplier who does this? My supplier (Octopus Energy) charges me 14.67p/kWh + VAT no matter when I use it.

    It operates on Residual Current i.e. the in-balance between Phase and Neutral. So what does that have to do with power factor?

    As an RCD is a current operated device, why would the 'power factor' have anything to do with it tripping? The power factor is related to the cosine of the angle between the voltage and the current.

    Just had a look at their website. I wonder why Victoria from Birmingham pays her electricity bill in Euros. Anyway, I think I'll order about 50 of these. Maybe British Gas will pay me for using their electricity. Don't know what I'm going to do with all that carbon though! P.S. - Snake Oil.

    Symptoms you describe suggest a missing phase - possibly a blown fuse.

    Anyone Work on live D.B

    I served as an apprentice between 1974 and 1978. In those days it was 'normal practice' to work on live Distribution Boards (LV). Some even had exposed bus-bars which the fuse carriers were fixed to Not sure these days whether I would even consider it.

    British Gas came to my house to fit a 'Smart Meter' - fitted a 2 pole isolator (free of charge) at the same time.
