    Disappointing 1000W inverter

GeorgeCook, yes, the supply is a solar charged 24v 110Ah battery and the minimum voltage noted was above that at which the inverter cuts out according to the manual. I have tried higher loads, 1000W heater and 6000W toaster and it cuts immediately. I have written to the supplier and will report...

    Disappointing 1000W inverter

I have just completed a stand alone (not grid connected) solar PV powered mains supply in my garage as mentioned in the thread "solar earthing question". The Epever 1000W continuous inverter seems to be cutting out at low loads: I plugged in all my tool chargers (1 x 36v, 2 x 18v, 1 x 10.8v)...

    Solar earthing question

The inverter casing isn't connected to anything at all. Maybe it is supposed to be earthed to prevent EMI either in or out. I think I will just leave all metalwork isolated and disconnected and see what happens.

    Solar earthing question

Thanks for your answers. I guess my question should now be: should I connect all the components mentioned to an earth rod in the ground or would it be best to leave them all isolated?

    Solar earthing question

I presume the solar panel frame needs to be earthed to protect against lightning strike, which would otherwise travel down the power cable to the battery and inverter. The inverter is not earthed, it is not connected to the mains.

    Solar earthing question

I am putting together a solar powered mains supply in my garage. I have a 260W panel feeding a 24V 110Ah battery via an MPPT controller feeding a 1kW inverter. The instructions for the inverter say that it should be earthed and the solar panel frame has an earthing point. I am planning to...

    intermittent domestic lighting fault

Sorted. Electrician (a friend of my son) came round and almost immediately found a cracked live conductor at the start of the spur; it broke as he moved it. He thought that the resistance I measured was probably LED lights. Thanks for your replies, Alan-c

    intermittent domestic lighting fault

Sorry about the late reply to your suggestions. Handysparks - there are LED lamps in the bathroom fitting so I suppose the strange measurement could be due to that. Murdoch - I don't know how to test the continuity of each core; this post was supposed to be in DIY! I've arranged for an...

    intermittent domestic lighting fault

I was going to post this in DIY but it appears locked for some reason, so here we are. Downstairs bathroom light flickered and went out, the three fittings on this spur are now not working. (Due to various building works, three lights are on a spur from the garage ring, which is itself an...
