An update W2D1…on my dad and his new medication

Or is it day 6? How are we counting this? Todays subject is an update on my dad, and a newly discovered medical treatment for high blood pressure… That is… having a stroke. He’s been in hospital 3 weeks now, his blood pressure is within normal range, and he’s off the BP pills he’s been on...

#1 of 5...and it's music this time...and for the rest of this week!

Electricains like power! Electricians like the JUICE! Here's "juice" for you... and though not all the lyrics are totally appropriate, let's take the chorus and remember... RIP, Christina x View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTzGMEfbnAw

    Pirate's Rant#4 no. 2 of 1 a day

Not sure whether to post here or in the Dan's Collection thread. Anyway, it's not electrical, it's a rant about parking! Why is it, when I go to a car park and select a quiet spot where I can park in the middle bay of 3 or 5 empty bays, folks come along and park right next to me when there's...

Day 1 experiences with retrofits, wafers, cans, battens and more.

Switch by the door, pendant holder and a 100W bulb, some will remember, others weren't born yet when it went out of fashion, but this was the standard lighting for most rooms. Then the residential energy saving craze began, 2 and 4-pin CFLs, starter vs no starter, 2D, U-shaped, M-shaped...

    Post a thread a day DAY 1

Today has been successful in removing an old control panel and physically mounting a new one. Made challenging by being wired in pyro. All I have left now is to make it work. Couple of day left I think! Better than the old one.

    Pirate's Rant #3 1 of my 5 a week

That brings me to bathroom fitters... 2 new bathrooms, 1 main, 1 en-suite, and this time in my own house, or rather a flat I was getting ready to rent out. Why do so many trades use plasterboard screws for everything? Certainly didn't secure the shower svreen to the wall in the main bathroom...

Littlespark Thread A Day (1) “tis the season”

Ok… not quite “… to be jolly” but it’s that time of year that many wholesalers run an annual Trade Day. Usually some games, a raffle and some discounts…. And maybe free breakfast. CEF last week. (Hotdogs, if you’re wondering) Didn’t get much except for a new set of WERA drivers. I tend to...

Megger X1 firmware version 8.1 Released

I just thought I'd mention that version 8.1 is now released. It adds 2 languages, and does claim to speed up some tests. https://www.megger.com/en-gb/products/mft-x1-multifunction-tester#support It's a fairly simple process to update it: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMpRnVCrzA0

    FLUKE 1663 Tester problem

I've got a FLUKE 1663 MFT with a small problem. When testing RCDs, they trip at 0mA and 0ms, regardless of which test is selected. Is there anyway to prove that it is the meter that is faulty and what are my options with this?
