Hi,
Flat recently gutted and rewired from scratch.
Livingroom has two switches, one controls the main light, one controls a 5 amp circuit with 3 sockets (3 round pins).
Only just got round to testing it (a year later...) and 1 socket is working, 2 aren't. Any ideas what could be the issue?
Not...
Is there an obvious reason why I can't just fit a plug onto my LED soffit downlights, fitted with a 5amp fuse and plug it into a socket rather than install a 5amp fsu? I'm fine with the plug being permanently plugged in as the socket gets no use anyhow. TIA
As most people really don't have an understanding of electricity whatsoever, and the amount of times I have come across the wrong size fuse in a plug or FCU.
I don't know but surely this should be addressed somehow.
Moulded plugs are all good as well on the new table lamp somebody has just...
I work for a charity (Besom) that gets equipment that needs to be PATted. A lot of these come with 5 amp fuses. Please do the regulations
allow you to use 5 amp fuses, or are you supposed to change them to 3 amp? Most of these devices are low power & they will run perfectly
well on a 3 amp...
Nothing much has changed with them since the beginning. Perhaps now a lot of things come with moulded plugs and you don't need a screwdriver to change the fuse except perhaps for popping it out. And for people with no knowledge whatsoever can put a 5amp fuse into the washing machine and I guess...
Hi all,
Quick question hope someone can shed some light on.
I have a single coil burner with the following labelled specifications;
1000 Watt
220/230v
50/60hz
It comes fitted with a 13 amp fuse, but after reading a short bit about fuses I got the impression it might be too high.
The...

Hi
I have a Radial circuit wired with 2.5mm T&E , which is protected by a 3 amp MCB due to the fact that it is switched via a home automation relay rated at 5amp.
My question is this
Given the above scenario is it ok to install/wire a BS1363 socket if I know that the load that will be...
hi all
family member called to say the down stairs lights are blowing the rewirable wylex fuse.
when i visited i did a visual check and chacked all the connections, every thing was in order. when i turned the the lights on one at a time they blew the fuse only when the kitchen lights are...
Hello,
I am looking for some advice for wiring in 5 amp lighting sockets. The requirements are below.
1) Will be dimmable (possibly LED)
2)Will be controlled from the main light switch on a separate channel/way
3)There will be more than one socket per room.
I have had a number of...
Hi all just wondering if anybody could give me some advice.
Im looking to add six 5 amp lighting sockets in my living room for table lamps, i have a spare way on my c/u so i was planning on running a 1.5mm cable to each socket on a radial circuit.
The bit im not sure on is the switching. i...
Is it OK to put a 20 amp joint box on instead of a 5 amp on a lighting circuit, baring in mind it will be about to be tested? I know its a bit of a stupid question. Is just because I have no 5 amp lying around.
Cheers.
Greetings peeps, a neighbour called around yesterday and asked me something I couldn't answer. He asked me could he feed a 5 amp round pin socket at high level to power his bedroom tv. He didn't want to chase from low level socket to do a conventional spur, his thinking being socket was easy to...
Hello all, I am a newbie.
I'm looking for some advice about a wall-mounted 5 amp socket.
In a room in my parents' house there is a wall mounted 5 amp socket, of the three round pin type (I think it's called BS 546). The house was recently rewired and refurbished so the installation is...
Hi,
I am a newbie renovating my flat. A friend of mine told me I need to have a separate circuits for lights in my bedroom (e.g. bedside lamps...) equipped with 5A 3 round pin sockets. Apparently to comply with BS 546.
I have never seen these 3 pin sockets before (nor the plugs) and I am a bit...
