I was replacing a socket that had a cracked face and as I took said socket off I noticed the armour was earthed by using BS951 clamps. I wasn’t expecting to see any earthing of the armour as the SWA was in a conduit drop to the socket.
I’ve never seen it done like that before but now I walk...
Does anyone know what to say to UKPN who will be attending one of our properties for pitch leaking problems, the lady on the phone informed me that a BS951 clamp on a TN-S is not there concern and i should consider a TT or apply for PME?
I have just completed an EICR.
The earthing is TN-S. However, there is a BS951 clamp used for this. Is this acceptable? Did the DNO ever use this a BS951 as a means for clamping around the supply cable or would this always be DIY?

Hi all,
Just been to look at a job for a consumer unit changeout, checked the supply and,
Not sure you can see it too well but TNS system with older earthing conductor in green kind of sweated onto intake (connection does not feel too good), but disconnected at the other end (goes into that...
I recently came across an installation, very rough in practically all areas, however one thing caught my eye.
The TNS earthing arrangement was via a BS951 clamp onto the armour of the incoming supply cable. This wasn't a lead supply cable (as I have seen before with BS951 clamps) it was SWA...
Afternoon all..
I have just completed an EICR and came across the following :
1. Is the black tarry substance Pitch?
The homeowner is unsure how long it has been there, however it is not completely solid and is slightly sticky to touch indicating that it is still getting too hot at times and...
Hi Guys, I've just been doing a EICR on a old one bed terrace and although there are two 10mm2 main bonding conductors connected to the CU I cannot for the life of me find the earth clamps at the other end and I've never experienced this before? I've traced the gas pipe which enters the building...
Evening all. I've acquired a large quantity of BS951 earth clamps (over 200!). They are stamped BS951:1999. I'm sure the last ones I had were to a later version of BS951. Will they still be OK to use? They do have the safety notice tag with them.
They are not coloured, I know most are now...
Can anyone explain to me why we have different colour earth clamps?
I know that red is for dry environments, blue for damp/corrosive and green same as blue but for larger diameter earth wires.
Why can't we use a single colour for all environments, the clamps appear to me to be made the same?
