The company i work for say that a domestic Electric Vehicle charger is not to be recorded as a special location on the certificate.
Is this correct?
I've made the argument that the installation requires consideration of the requirments laid out in section 7, therefor it is deemed a special...
Day 1: Who has an Electric Vehicle, either Electric Car for home, or Electric Van for Work?
I thought I'd post my threads in the forums that I hope to grow a bit more, so I'm trying to steer my threads towards those ones.
So my first question / thread is this.
Now electric vehicles are...
Hi
I'm just starting to fit EV chargers as part of our solar installs. Just looking at the tester options I currently have a Megger 1711 but this isn't suitable due to no DC RCD test.
Does everyone end up buying a new MFT or am I missing something?
cheers

Just looking for a bit more information on Mode 2 charging of electric vehicles.
The mode 2 charging cables state they have protection against electric shock but they don't go into detail. Do they have an inbuilt RCD in them?
Also, if the earthing is PME, how can they be acceptable to use if...
Hi everyone,
Signed up as I'm doing some work with a company producing electric vehicle charging points (in the UK) and would like to draw on your wisdom!
Does anyone know of any City & Guilds 2919-01 (Electric Vehicle Charging Courses) - this side of the Irish Sea? The only course I can find is an NICEIC course which I'm assuming doesn't award the C&G qualification.
I am looking to fit a EVCP in the customers garage. The earthing system is PME although it would not be too hard to change the garage to TT.
I have 3 questions.
1. Can the PME be used as long as the EVCP is located in the garage so that the car cannot be charged outside?
2. I believe there...
Hi there,
I have been offered an opportunity to do some EVC training through my local wholesaler. They are putting on a course run by the NICEIC and Rolec. Its a one day course and although the cost is considerable, included in it is; the NICEIC code of practice book for EV Charging and a Rolec...
Gary and Joe take a look inside a Myenergi Zappi 2 electric vehicle (EV) charger. The Zappi is approved for use with the latest UK government OLEV charging s...
Hi there
I’m unsure of what wiring I need to run for an EV charging point and have read that there were new requirements launched in January 2019. Please advise. Thanks
Looking to get trained/qualified on the EV charging point installations.
To those of you who have gone down this route which way did you go about it, is it worth getting training by one of the manufacturers or the training centres like nic?
I'm considering buying a domestic 4kW PV with 6kWh of battery storage and a 5kW hybrid inverter from Sungrow.
My problem is that wife's electric car has a 7kW Podpoint charger. I assumed that the hybrid inverter would pull power from the grid when the house demand exceeds 5kW, but there's no...
Electric vehicles are starting to penetrate into the domestic market now
In places like the USA and Australia the voltage used most commonly is 240v @ 50A.
This is not exactly a small amount of power.
So how do you see this impacting electrical business ?
Many households could well need...
Hello guys
I think with an ever expanding EV market getting more in depth knowledge would defiantly be beneficial, I would like to really get into the side arm of our industry.
I am based in north London so would anyone be able to advise:
what they found with the course was it useful?
Can it...
Hi
I have a job to install a electric car charger, it is to be situated just outside an indoor car park. In the IET code of practice i can use the PME earth if it is located inside the building but must use TT if outside. MY problem is the isolator has to be fitted inside the building but the...
Looks like the government are fiddling again. Funding for domestic EV charging points, which should carry on until March 2015, may be pulled as soon as TWO WEEKS time. These people have absolutely zero idea of how a SME works. The domestic EV charging point scheme has attracted praise and...
I will shortly be installing POD Point Electric Vehicle Charging units and I am very confused by the earthing requirements if the property has a TN-C-S Supply.
I have read the installation manual of the POD Point, Amendment 2:2013 of BS 7671:2008 and the IET Code of Practice for Electric...
