Hi everyone,
On a job at the moment and trying to
Work out cable size needed for property supply. Lots going on and struggle to work out potential loads of new build not built yet.
Loads
2 x ring main around 15 sockets
Lighting circuits consisting of around 60 spotlights and outside...
We have a 5.5kW incoming supply, which cannot practicably be upgraded due to our remote location in the mountains.
Can I use a PV array and battery bank to augment this supply? We don't need lots of power, but with a 1.5kW water heater, a 2kW kettle and the odd 3kW power tool, we keep tripping...
I always turn off main switch before removing cover or doing any work in a DB, but when should incoming supply be isolated ?
When placing a clamp-on ammeter around an incoming phase conductor in a 3 phase board a spark to board casing occurred. Later found to be pre-existing damage to insulation...
whilst watching many a video in the middle of reading the many books on the journey to becoming a qualified sparky, i notice in a setup, that seems to have multiple main switches and fuses before the distribution board, as i am far from being qualified, let alone experienced, i was wondering if...
Incoming supply on our job comes into the building and then the tails from which go into a switched isolator with 200A fuses fitted.
No idea what size the incoming fuses are or incoming conductor sizes. Would have to contact the DNO but not sure whether they would give that info to anyone or...
Hello,
I have a EV charger that is reporting over voltage and is unable to charge. the charger will operate up to 253V
The solar inverter reports voltages below 253V and when the solar is shutdown and isolated the incoming supply reports voltages in excess 248V consistently, peaking at 256V...
I've come across this incomer, looks like 10mm conductors.
The dno has upgraded the meter and used a 100A fuse.
So my question is, does this need reported or can I do whatever work I please along as I don't overload the 100A fuse 🤔
I am doing a new consumer unit install on a second story ex council flat. I’ve notice the mains come in in metal conduit with no CPC. On checking further I’ve seen they have split the neutral before the meter and joined an earth cable onto it creating a pme at the fuse board. I believe this can...
Hi Guys
Just first fixing fixing a new build and master BT point needs to be in the basement plant room/ next to rack.
BT incomer is overhead line, coming into property on far first floor corner.
Opposite corner to property from basement - basically a long way away!
Other ones we've done with...
Ive managed to fluff up my bt incoming cable and from what i can find out there are two wires, one orange and one white that should go to terminals 2 and 5 on the master socket - anyone any ideas please?
My main incoming rcd is tripping out as soon as any load on any circuit. Have pulled each circuit out of the board live and neutral in turn but failed to isolate it to any specific circuit, is this likely to be the rcd at fault?
Hello, yesterday I went to look at a small job, just an extra socket for a garage door. Bonding to gas is visible, where its fed from the CU in 10mm, but nothing to water. Long story short we couldnt find the incoming water anywhere despite looking in all usual places like under sink, under all...
Hi all
This is a follow up from a previous thread I posted about 16mm tails.
Just had two electricians round to quote for a board change, they were both happy to do it with 16mm tails but the incoming earth is only 6mm they have advised me to get onto the electricity supplier and upgrade the...
Looking for some help with this one. Had a call to an apartment today, reporting a loss of power. Got to the job and sure enough nothing on the incoming tails. Went to the meter cupboard where we have a 3 phase incomer, going to banks of BS5419 100a isolators, then to the meter, then to a DP...
A plastic conduit is laid under the floor ready for a cable. I want to use 25mm tails rather than armoured. Previously I’ve fitted 100amp SP&N fused switch with 25mm armoured but they are tight to make off in the mains electrical meter box and some providers don’t want you in there box! If you...
Basic question..jist trying to gain some knowledge.
I have 2 breaker boxes in my home. Each have 100 amp main breakers.
One is not a sub to the other. Both are serviced directly from the meter outside.
Should I assume that my house has a 200 amp service coming in? Just split between the 2...
Hello All
Noticed the existing bonding for the cold water supply is only 4mm. The supply pipe out of the ground is clearly a plastic pipe. It joins a brass stopcock under the kitchen sink cabinet and the rest of the plumbing in the house is in copper. I'm worried I need 10mm bonding and will...
Hi
We’re currently having drainage Installed in our back garden, when the guys digging up concrete next to house came across what looks like a lead covered cable.
They followed it along by digging up the area around it, until it entered a brick in the house, this is where the cable ends (see...
Doing an EICR on a top floor flat recently and run into an issue I often do - which is judging imperial sizes when they are larger than the standard 1/1.5/2.5mm equivalents.
In this case, the flat is fed by a Twin and Earth cable that is somewhere around the 10-16mm range equivalent, with an...
