I know the effect of a lost neutral (floating neutral) on a 3 phase system, and the theory of why the line voltages can vary.
However, I have been attempting to show this by calculating the line voltages of a phase system at given loads on each phase.
Lets say:- Red 296 Amps, Yellow 279 Amps...
Hi all,
I was reading about what can happen if the neutral on a PME system is lost at some point before the cutout and I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone could help me with.
1) Am I correct in thinking that for a properly earthed and bonded system, if the neutral is disconnected...
Alright troops ! First post here ! Any one come over this situation before !
Yesterday i connected an existing feed for cooker good into socket but it wasn’t working when I turned on!
I tested between live and earth (240v) between live and neutral (12v ) and neutral and earth (0 volt )
I...
I understand how to calculate the current in the neutral conductor on an unbalanced three phase installation, however am struggling to grasp how to calculate the voltage movement on each of the three lines if the neutral were open circuit. I appreciate it is influenced by the current and...
Would a surge protector (on an RCD) circuit protect from a lost neutral overvoltage? I know that isn't the aim of them (transient spikes only rather than sustained overvoltage) but I am thinking it may be possible (although very alarming if there isn't a thermal fuse in the surge protector)...
1. What steps and measures would you take if called out to a fault and you discovered that the client had lost their neutral somewhere back in the DNO supply to their TNS system and the neutral tail was now sitting at significant voltage relative to earth conductor?
2. Same question and...
Hi guys,
Today i went to a hotel that had lost its neutral at the main incommer, and has been presumed out for around a year. The neutral link had been undone during a previous refurb and tightened up in the undone position. The problem has only been found after a small fuse board from the...
I'm just having a little think to myself (I know it's dangerous) and have a quick question.
Say for instance you lived in another country with overhead power lines, just Line and Neutral and you wanted to make a safe electrical system for your home.
One method could be to put a nice big rod...
Howdy folks.
I have been reading a thread on another forum about PME and lost neutrals and one of the comments was this:

I can not see how losing a supply neutral would result in an over voltage.
Has any one got any ideas?
Thanks.
