Got a job to do soon where sub mains x2 have been run to a flat in pyro. Earth via sheath. No gland fitted - just the pot with a BS951 clamp. Suspect it’s all imperial size and tight to access, so not planning to mess about with it too much.
Do these pyro clamps actually exist? Can anyone...
Evening people anybody got any ideas of how to best terminate this pyro without having to re gland it.
Its feeding the meter to an old 3036 board, that's to be changed . Running a armoured not an option , need to secure to a metal adaptable box but no idea how going to lock it in place without...
I need to replace this mess with a switch fuse (not the socket, obvs). The pyro is imperial; IR is low(ish) but above the minimum. Estimated age is about 60 years. The only things I'm missing are a banjo and a locking nut. I'm pretty sure I can get a 25mm banjo on to fit, but what thread were...
I've got a job where I need to move a DB, it's currently in a pub kitchen getting covered in grease etc and the location is right above hot surfaces, not an ideal place.
The plan is to install new circuits in the kitchen, food prep and storeroom fed from a new DB in the storeroom. this will be...
Can anyone identify what this is and what its current carrying capacity should be? Being a sprightly 41 imperial sizes aren't my thing and I can't find anything on the net.
2 core pyro about 13mm diameter, gland marked 465, seems to be about 10mm-ish equivalent.
Backstory if you want it is...
Dusted off my pyro tools today - manages to terminate two ends and then the stripping tool started to play up.
It wont successfully strip the MI now and when it starts to it's an extremely close wrap and then breaks off. I've tried multiple times and it wont catch and then when forced it twists...
Hi,
I have an open plan flat and want to get power to a kitchen island. I really want to avoid getting it through a pole from the ceiling. It's a new build approximately 13 years and has under floor heating. I believe it is electrical under floor heating, and from making a drill hole under a...
Hi everyone,
I am looking for an electrician who can work with pyro cable, which seems to be a massive challenge as everyone I have spoken to so far either does not know how, or does not have the tools any more.
Is there anyone in the West London area who can help with this? I am based HA4 -...
hi all , im having a new consumer unit fitted ,but my meter tails are in pyro its a 1970's 2 bed terraced house.. im just waiting for my electrician to confirm if he can re use the pyro tails or they have to be replaced with something more modern.

Hi looking at an earlier thread here
earthing micc cable - http://www.electriciansforums.co.uk/threads/earthing-micc-cable.90299/
Anyone know where i can buy such a pyro earth clamp?
Theres not much room to change the pot, and a standard earth clamp would be too large.
Thanks
PHOTOGRAPHS TO FOLLOW.
Approximately 70Metres of 3L 1.5mm red, plastic coated, MICC, Pyro cable.
I had to purchase a full 100Metre drum for an emergency job. Only used about 20Metres.
I checked the price on this today and I was quoted £460.00 including VAT for 100Metres.
I would rather not...
Situation is there's some 53 year old pyro cable that I need to either remove, or make dead, or cut short and push back into the wall having ensured that the still-live end cannot short out the circuit or come into contact with anything.
No hope of fully removing it, as it goes up the cavity...
I recently came across Pyro that had been sitting cut off in a damp basement. The last time made off Pyro was 3 years ago.
I have various cut offs and pots & glands with the intention of occasionally keeping in practice.
I had read all sorts of things from them in the past and seen various...
Morning guys, bit of nostalgia for you vets.
Wiring up an MOT bay, went to see the excavation so we can draw up the plan, they pulled some pyro out that was buried 1.5m deep, and was amongst a news paper that had a 1970's date on it.
Gave it a whirl on the tester for banter, still returning...
:willy_nilly: Domestic client called me to quote for some sockets and a CU change. Stunned to see the meter connected to the existing fuse box by 2 core pyro using the bare sheath as the earth conductor. Was this common practice in the 70s and did it comply back then or even now?
The supply is...
whats the best size metric equivalent for an old lighting pyro?
3l1.5 is slightly too loose 2l 1.5 is too tight.
would re tapping the pots to a slightly bigger size work or a solder ring at the top?
any tips would be appreciated
