Hi guys, I have a question regarding these wires, what is the black wire for?
The location is Europe, Slovenia.
I understand traditionally brown is live, blue is neutral and yellow/green is earth, but why is here a black wire, too? And how do I connect it, to what.
Question 4 mentions nothing of diversity so I’m confused wether to leave diversity until question 6 or not. But wouldn’t I need to apply diversity to get the right cable calcs and protective devices
I'd like to refurbish the alternator for a 2005 CR-V. My plan is to replace the front bearing (the one closest to the alternator pulley) since that's the one that has the most stress applied, and also replace the two brushes. Honda sells the brushes, but they are almost $100 for the pair! The...

Happy new year to all!
First post but long timer lurker, so thanks for all the previous help!
Just wanted to clarify something I have been given some conflicting advice about, from two separate QS's for the NIC.
I was advised by one, that since the recent amendment the NIC no longer...
I have my AM2 coming up next week but something is puzzling me and I’m hoping someone can help me out.
So there is some SY cable coming out of the DOL into the 3 phase motor. From my understanding they provide 4 core SY.
I’m a bit confused as to where I’m supposed to get the CPC from as from...
Is it possible for all or at least most electricians to be trained up in the wiring of solar PV installations, particularly the iBoost or Eddy or similar boxes? I have had two iBoost and I still have no hot water ability as iBoost boxes seem to be a disaster and absolutely impossible to find any...
I have a question. I am installing a steam generator. The unit draws 42 amps. I have a two pole 50 amp breaker at the service box per the instruction manual. Used 6 awg. The unit needs a fused disconnect at the generator. I have a two fuse 60 amp disconnect requiring two fuses. My question is...
Recently booked an EICR for a 2 bed rental property (first time letting this property).
Quoted price for the test.
How long should an electrician allow for the test? Should they automatically do any remedial works needed? Should they phone me and quote for any works needed?
Many thanks in...
I successfully installed one new dimmer switch today, but ran into an issue with the second. There are two one-way switches: one switch operates the light of our ceiling fan and another switch operates the fan. I want to change out the light switch to install a dimmer on it. When I examined the...
I was registered with the NICEIC until about 3 years ago as a competent person under BS7671, 17th edition. The EICR on my home expires shortly and I am capable of carrying out the appropriate testing and measurement but am I allowed to do it? As I am planning a cellar conversion, I will be...
I've done some basic wiring, but nothing beyond. I know enough to shut off the circuit.
I have no basement or garage, so when I work with a table saw or mitre saw, I have to go outside to a patio area where I run an extension cord to an outlet inside. After 30 years, time to finally add an...

Hoping someone might be able to advise. I've got two sets of LED lighting this is affecting. One is the plinth LEDs I originally raised a thread for some months back; one is two LED wall lights.

Morning all,
I was working at a property yesterday and came across something I've not seen before (which isn't unusual given I haven't long since qualified) and as I thought it could be potentially dangerous I thought I'd ask on here.
One of the jobs the client wanted was a new socket outlet...
Hi All, general question regarding how far you would deem your responsibility regarding works in a bathroom.
Works undertaken would be shower install(new). It would be RCD protected. Bonding would be checked and installed if needed.
Now in regards to other circuits within that location, ie...
