Hi all,
Hoping for a little advice. I work in the Asbestos industry and we manufacture mobile decontamination units we follow the HSE 247 that states all units must comply with BS7671.
We have had a heads up that new regulations may adopt the use of electrical separation (assuming the use of...
hello everyone, I have a little problem. I've got a three phase board, it has the three phase sauna, one phase lighting and sockets connected to it. The problem i am facing right now. This is a comercial unit. So the problem is that the sauna makes the RCD trip every so often. And the board...
Hi all.
I'm a member of a FB group for people trained through a particular training provider. Recently someone posted a query for testing for electrical separation for shaver sockets, and my ex trainer responded with the following method (cut n paste verbatim):
you need to confirm separation...
Hi,
From site to site someone always seems to have a new previously unknown insight towards elv and Lv running together.
I’ve heard :
‘They can run together for 600mm”
“They can cross over and touch”
amongst others.
No one however can ever provide a reg number.
Does anyone here have any...

Hi all.
It seems there has been quite some different opinions in my classroom as to who should really change the earth cable in the incoming position where the 100A fuse is, in domestic installations.
Can any qualified electrician, change the earth cable at the DNO side? Say for example on an...

Hi,
I had an interesting conversation at work today which might cause a few problems.
I am fitting 4 pole MCBs to protect the 1.5mm 3 phase feed to some motors (There is no neutral).
The 4th pole is part of the control circuit.
My idea is that if the MCB trips, it will delatch the control...

I have some electrical cables in the garage that cross a gas pipe at 90 deg.
Am I right in thinking that there should be 25mm separation or the gas pipe wrapped in insulation / PVC? Would it be ok to acheve this by slipping a PVC waste pipe around the gas pipe or is there something available...
Hello,
I'm doing a periodic inspection and am unsure weather to fault this,
I have a generator which is the source of my supply, this then feeds two main distribution panels out of the main switch. So there is two 3 phase supply cables out of one MCCB. Does 314.4 come into play or does it...

Hi All,
My assessor suggested there is no need for frame bonding if a TL inverter has electrical separation between DC and AC. This is news to me and wonder if he is getting confused RCD requirements, but he is adamant.
Anybody heard this? Is everybody bonding TL’s and including earth...
It is planned to install a central 24V SELV supply in a domestic residence, e.g. to power LEDs.
According to my reading, BS 7671:2008 chapter 414.4.1 (ii) requirements for protective separation between a SELV and 230V circuits offer the following options
a) double insulation -or-
b) reinforced...

Have got a building to wire with data and coax with the usual power. Am going to put in a trunking system. the question is can i run my data for IT sockets in the same compartment as tv coax cable??
when separating 13amp sockets on different phases by 2/2.5m
-the only concern is physical separation of the sockets and not leads and appliances?
am i right in thinking any risk to customers/users from appliances on different phases is very small?
