Hello!
I design and build lamps, which has been a simple task so far, but I've decided to dip my toe into the dubious world of 120v LED PCBs for slimmer designs. I'm working on a lamp right now that would utilize three ~4" 120v LED PCBs that are originally designed as ceiling lamp/fan retrofit...
I would like to install a plug as the original one has been cut off. It has a black sleeved wire but also a non sleeved cable with no indication whether it is a live.
Can you please advise which type of plug I need for this?
Many thanks
Hi All,
I'm designing my own table lamp but having issues with the wiring. The lamp consists of an E17 socket, a two position toggle and a two prong whip (see diagram). I've mocked up the wiring as noted in the diagram but it trips the surge protector and I'm trying to understand where I've...
I have recently restored an ancient anglepoise lamp which is not a product as far as I can tell from the well known anglepoise lamp company.
it is fitted with 2 core wiring which is in good condition. As the lamp is in good condition and the only item which I have replaced is a switched brass...
Hi all, was wondering if is possible to wire a 3 amp table lamb directly to a mains light switch?
The light switch is used for an outside light has two brown wires going to the switch and two blue wires in a chocy block going nowhere?
Thanks.
Steve.
We have just bought this dimmable (three-stage) lamp.
The descriptions states: "Bulbs required 1 x golfball SES small edison eco halogen bulb"
Do you think it has to be an E14 dimmable "eco halogen" bulb? Or do you think I can I get an E14 dimmable LED bulb?
Hi All, First time poster here. I'm an ex-plumber and lamp making diyer.
My question is this:
Is it safe to wire a lamp like the one here (image 1 below):
with a toggle switch as seen here (image 2 below):
Switch type: toggle
Contacts configuration: DPST
Switching method: ON-OFF
AC...
I have a table lamp fitted with 2 core 0.75mm flex.
I wish to extend the length of the cable but only have 2 core 1.5mm flex to hand.
Can I use this, or must the flex be the same diameter both sides of the join.
Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.
Thank you for your advice.
Hi all.
I am planning a metal table lamp. The light will be a 12 volt LED fed from a plug in transformer, so there will not be any 240 volt cable or connection to the table lamp. Do I need to earth the metal of the table lamp?
Hi All, the story so far : Customer has asked me to make her old brass table lamp work. How hard could it be? No earth, so first step was some new 3 core flex and a brass lamp holder that's got an earth point. An inline switch and I'm away. But no, the new flex won't fit up the stem of the lamp...
Hi,
I have a table lamp that I love but it only allows bulbs up to 50 watt although the shade is large and open so not really a fire hazard. I have been using halogen bulbs to the equivalent of 70 watts (I think they're around 42 watt but I threw the box away) but they only last about a month...
Hi guys, hope all had a good christmas.
After seeing a piece of driftwood made into a very nice table lamp as a christmas gift it has given me the idea to make a few myself as a hobby and maybe sell them locally.
I live very close to the sea and am sure to be able to source plenty of driftwood...
PAT testing table lamps. There is no CE or Class II mark (in fact no markings of any type). Opened up the plug to check the fuse and found no E just L/N.
Ran an IR test anyway which they passed, as did the plugs/fittings etc.
They are not SELV as take a standard bulb and no transformer...
Just the other day a friend of mine who is a store manager at a big DIY retail store had a customer return a table lamp. It had a big metal body to it but only a 2 core flex to the plug top, it had no earth. He asked me what I thought and I said it is very odd that it doesn't have the earth, in...
Hi. Can anyone advise please?
A customer recently bought a porcelain table lamp from my store but it was ordered from Portugal and had no wiring in it. It was just a porcelain shell. They have now asked me to wire it for them, a switched BC lamp holder and a plug lead.
Am I aloud or is...
