I had to replace a surface plug socket box after the plasterer destroyed the old stuff.
It has black, red and earth wire, 3 of each and look quite thick (the earth wire looks like it should be used for barb wire abd isn't covered)
Sticking all of that into a new faceplate isn't working so well...
Can anyone tell me more about Twin and Earth American style?
What's it's full name? NM?
Is it always flat?
Do you add a sheath to the ground/earth cable?
Thanks 😊
The ongoing kitchen refit.....
I have chased and fitted 10mm T&E from the cooker outlet to the isolator switch and up into the loft. I have 4 metres of T&E in the loft temporary connected to the original 6mm cooker circuit via a 40amp junction box screwed into the rafter, the 6mm then goes into...
Hi guys I'm looking for some advice. I have recently removed a wall socket that we no longer need, and have wrapped the individual Live, Earth and Neutral wires in electrician's insulating tape, and then wrapped the end of the whole cable in insulating tape, before cementing it back into the...
Hi,
The current carrying capacity tables in the BS 7671 for twin and earth cables are only for buildings that have thermal insulation. I'm working on a commercial building, the inner walls do not have thermal insulation, what can i use for the current carrying capacity of the cables. The...
Correctly closing off a dead twin and earth cable in a loft.
My old house used to have radial circuits serving night storage heaters. Those radials came from a dedicated consumer unit in the garage which has now been removed and all cables from it are now dead. Each night storage heater was...
Tried pulling some 2.5mm T&E through 10m of 20mm flexi conduit the other day with a draw tape, although I did succeed it was a bit of a wrestle.
Does anyone have any clever tricks to make this easier? Perrhaps some cable lube or some other smart idea.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all,
Our sparky has carried out first fix, twin and earth cables clipped to the block walls of our extension routed to each back box. His leaving instruction was to dot n dab the plasterboard over the cables - but he has laid them without plastic or steel cable channels and in such a manner...
Running some cables and fitting some back boxes to save some money in preparation for an electrician to do a 1st fix. Just wondering if there is a simple table available to show what size cable(s) will fit into oval conduit?
Specifically 2 x 6mm2 T+E cables (induction hob and oven) and 2 x 4mm2...
Hi.... First time I've posted here. I own a property which is rented out. Recently the Gas Oven failed a gas safety test and the Gas Engineers recommended an Electric Oven. I purchased a 2.3Kw oven and they fitted it and plugged it into the ring main. Its only a small terrace and just as the one...
I have a dedicated radial from the consumer unit to my conservatory. This was installed using 4mm twin and earth as it gives the option to use multiple electric heaters on a 32amp breaker if needed. The circuit consists 4 double sockets plus one single socket on the end, in a weatherproofed...
Seen loads of flats are fed from a 60amp isolator in 10mm twin and earth?
don't they need to be 16mm tails and at least a 10mm earth?
or is it just down to the adiabatic?
I have an old cob cottage where i have had to take an inch or more of the plaster off for damp proof course. The damp proof firm want all the electrics installed and hanging down ready to plaster. I dont want the cable hanging off the beams.so I thought i could wire the ccts in 25mm conduit and...
Not unusual in townhouses that have been converted into flats round here to see all the meters in the basement, each feeding a switched fuse spur that then feeds 16mm T+E to each flat. Obviously that's a run of tens of metres, concealed in walls etc with no RCD protection.
Guessing it was...
Was wondering. I haven't been to college for about 3 or 4 years now and I can't seem to remember what they said about doubling over conductors in a ring circuit.
So in a ring circuit using 2.5mm twin and earth cable, is it recommended that you double over the conductors before terminating them...
Under my floorboards I have a short section of twin and earth which is unsheathed. The outer grey coating has been stripped over a 10 cm length and the two inner red and black coatings have been stripped over a 2-3cm length to expose the copper cables. The cable has no marking to indicate the...
As above really. First time I have seen this but its basically 16mm twin and earth connected straight into the outgoing side of the meter, and into the consumer unit. Quality. Couldn't quite get a picture of the external MET but can confirm an additional cable has been added to bring the size of...
We had this discussion in lecture this week...
Extending 2.5mm twin and earth underneath non accessible floor boards...had loads of mixed opinions..
Experienced professionals...whats your thoughts on this? Jb? What ones do you recommend etc?
Thanks
