Hi All,
Hoping to get opinions on Vd calculations for a 1.5mm2 downstairs lighting circuit with an estimated length of 128m!
Length is due to loops at switches (neutrals required) and switched lives feeding various strings of lights.
Parameters:
Mv/A/m - 29
ib - 2.38
L - 128
Method 1...
hey guys
we have done an EICR on a 2 bedroom bungalow, the supply is a 25mm 4 core 3 phase SWA to the property, it is supplied from 80amp fuse.
although it is speculative as the cable is underground we reckon the distance is around 600m :fearscream:.
it has being installed around 10 years and no...
Hello,
We have a mini split AC Inverter. We need electrical wire for the second mini split AC inverter.
Can we get a wire branch from the first AC terminal?
Do the voltage drop/sag and fluctuation occur?
BIG place OK lots of electrical bits.
but one on a 3 phase Radial is tripping its RCCB
so i check the wiring making sure its tight and it has continuity
even trust the RCCB that it trips. All ok
but i noticed on phase for a short while it dropped to 120v on my meter.. just Random comes and...
all currently working towards my 2391 c&g I&T . I know how to calculate v.d. but the mock test I found online seems a bit out of date or I'm potentially doing something wrong. Here comes de Q.
Voltage drop of a single-phase distribution circuit supplying a power distribution board in a remote...
I am sending power to some 5v led lights about 50ft from the transformer. I was going to use some CAT6 direct Burial cable that I kept after a contractor accidently cut it (I replaced the wire as I did not want to do an underground splice).
So I plan to use 1.5 pairs (three conductors) for Pos...
Hi!
Once you've calculated the voltage drop in Volts - you divide by 400V for three phase right?
For example: three phase 30kW appliance, 10mm 90 degree SWA, 45 meter run.
30,000/sqrt3/400 = 43.3A = Ib
from the table 4E4B, a 10mm cable gives 4.7
So then 43.3 x 4.7 x the 45 meter run gives =...
Hi All,
From what I understand, working out the design current - Ib for single phase is quite easy (max appliance power/voltage).
For three phase, do I take the max power, divide by 3 then divide by 230 to get the Ib?
(We definitely use 230V for everything right?)
Now for voltage drop, We...
I have a 3 prong 240v outlet for a dryer that reads 240v across both legs and 120 across the ground. When I turn the dryer on and have the multi meter to the ground and a hot leg it shows 120 but if I switch it to the b leg and ground it shows 40 then climbs up slowly to 120. The ground is new...
Hello, this is my first post here. I have a little experience with most types of household wiring through a decade of DIY remodeling, and building a new house but am not an electrician.
I'm researching options for getting power to a small cabin in the woods behind a house (Oregon, USA). It...
I have a run of conduit 172ft from a 12x12 box which branches out to parking equipment with runs about 50ft from the box. My voltage drop calc requires me to run #10s to the 12x12 box. My question is from that box can I size down to the respected size of wire my machines need (#14awg) to branch...
Hi chaps,
Been working though the electrical design guide and I'm stumped on reactive power. volt drop and the equations are easy enough but I have no idea where sin phi has come from or how they have calculated it at 0.6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi senior members of the forum,
I need advice on couple of questions about Rio and BHP specs for electrical installation purposes.
What is the minimum allowance for unsupported cable coming out of cable ladder. This is for install of a genset trailer to load. The cable will be going through...
hello. i need to run power to a cabin that is 350 feet from the service pole in our driveway. the problem is voltage drop. the service pole is 150 feet from the transformer so total run is 500 feet.
is it possible for a diy'er to purchase a small transformer that would bring the voltage up? (i...
I've got what may be a stupid question but the only answer that I can come up with is 'because it says so in AS 3000', is there a reason why you only get 5% voltage drop when your transformer is on the site but not dedicated to the site? To me, the physics would suggest that it should be no...
Hi there
I can't wrap my head around a problem I have when trying to connect my dual 12v battery system in a camper. When I plugged in my VSR ( Orion from the brand Victron) i measured the + input was 3 volts although engine running (and app saying 14v input...). I thought the wire were too...
BACKGROUND
I live in a small town where it is difficult to find ceritified electricians. In fact, electrician certification is not common for residential installations. I did find some experienced electricians but I don't think they are certified and know best practices in the installation.
I...
Hi,
I'm currently doing my assignment for 2357 and was just making sure I'm calculating the cable length for the lighting circuits right. As depending which way you do it, it alters the voltage drop a bit.
On the drawings I've looped in and out at the switches all the way to the final light...
Hi all,
This is my first time posting something on this forum. I'm busy putting together a design for some LED lights that are going to be mounted on some columns along a pathway. The supply will run twenty odd metres to an enclosure on the outside of the building that will encase the...
The project: Install 12VDC 3 Watt Low voltage LED pathway lights, one every 20', along a 420' boardwalk through a mangrove forest. There are 24 lights and to minimize taps in the main line they will be installed in groups of 3 with one light at the tap, one light 20 feet behind and one 20 feet...
