Hi A-Jay and welcome to the forum:DHow far are you running the cable and what route are you taking.

Hi A-Jay
You will need to carry out a cable design calculation, and if you don't know how to do this you should question if your competent enough to carry out the works as this is one of the most basic of questions any electrician would be able to do,
Any way sorry if i sound harsh, i will how ever give you the basics

First work out the design current 10800/230 = 46.96A
Then select fuse size this will need to be a 50A, i assume you will use an MCB/RCBO?
Then you need to know if the cable is going to be affected by any other influences, Ambient temperature, if its going to be installed in thermal insulation and if its going to be grouped with other circuits.
This will all affect the current capacity of the cable lets assume you have no influences and the cable is clipped direct to a wooden surface Table 4D2A on page 276 ref method C 10mm T+E can take 63A

So in short the answer the answer to your question is 50A MCB and 10mm T+E but be warned you need to consider all the influences, and know how to check the voltage drop at the end

Hope this steers you in the right direction

Regards

AJ

Hi...Impressed with your quick resonse!!!

I will need to run a 5 metre cable straight from fuse box through loft down to shower channelling wall.

Hi.. an electrician called out and told me i needed to run a 16mm T&E cable for this shower and told me to consider a 9kw shower lol

excellent thankyou.. Any idea where i can get a 50 amp fuse square D type QOE as i have also been told these are now obsolete

Once the cable is fully derated taking into acct all external influences then maybe 16mm cable is whats required. Have you got a consumer unit or a fusebox (BS3036) fuses with fusewire, if so thats why 16mm cable is required as x 0.725 derating for BS3036. Also cant wire direct to shower need an isolator switch first

cheers

Hi.. an electrician called out and told me i needed to run a 16mm T&E cable for this shower

without all the details an exact design cant be given, any reason why the electrician chose 16mm or why you doubt him

would you get a 16mm cable into the connections?

As with an earlier suggestion, make sure you understand and know what your doing my friend
