10 amp switches on a 6 amp lighting circuit?

Is it ok to use 10amp light switches on a 6 amp lighting circuit? Would prefer to use 6 amp, but her in doors wants wickes slimline ones, which only come in 10 amp. Am i right in thinking 10 amp would ok and also suitable for fluresent lighting?

Yes of course.....a 10A switch is rated to carry upto 10A, as you only have a 6A max lighting circuit it is well below the maximum rating of the switch so no problem.

Almost all light switches (not dimmers) are 10amp. The only reason we fit 6amp MCB's is due to the 0.75mm flex at the pendants. In certain circumstances you will find 10a MCB's on lighting circuits, but more so in commercial and industrial rather than domestic.

Sorry for the lesson in lighting but i got carried away, useless info but it might enlighten someone.

i use 100a on my switches so they can double up as coat hooks

The only reason we fit 6amp MCB's is due to the 0.75mm flex at the pendants.

The maximum wattage of the lamps ensures that overload cannot occur so it's not an issue.
