Ive just done one day work trial on new build, Afterwards they said i would be looking at around ÂŁ6 per hour ,im starting to think why the **** do i bother.

I gave up work to retrain as a sparky for ÂŁ6 per hour....i earned more than tht when i left school 20 years ago.

Anyone thinkin of bein a sparky I would seriously THINK TWICE......The reality is far from the expectancy.

Sorry but you can't expect too be on decent pay after one days trial. What was you thinking ÂŁ20 an hour?
your lucky you even have a TRIAL, I know plenty of people who haven't even had a response from a company

I could take damons post as a total kick in the teeth and start questioning my decision. Instead i shall treat it as one perons experience and opinon and not be wavered by it, I have chosen what i want to do and i am damn determined to get there.

When i finally get to the end of the road i have just walked into, i would be happy to work for my current hourly rate for a while if i needed to. No rise in pay but the job i want is a step in the right direction in any case!!

I dont expect huge pay to start (or later to be honest, but i wouldn say no to it), but thats part of gettin to where i want to be, Start basic, work my way up.

I'm a bit of an optimist and i think optimism can help.

Damon, you hit a hurdle, keep trying and keep your chin up!

RE number 8 Youv never heard of the Budgie Bobby??? at the fruit market open and serving the community from 6am so long as you purchasse one of their delicacies (pies) Well it use to be open at 6 but no doubt has shut down due to lack of sparkies being able to aford a pint and just the local winos wanting a drinkky poo @ 6am

Hows the job hunting coming along Bobby??

damon wake up an smell the coffee the year is 2010 the whole country is skint if an employer thinks he can get away with payin you that then he will but remember there is no such thing as a golden handshake at the end of yor time ......beleive me

davejp all i can say is u r nuts or on serious medication .........

on that happy note, peace...... word ................respect ....................arf arf arf

only want what you can achive and achive what you want !!!!!

I have more than enough reasons to retire at the end of this year, 20 years in the industy, my soul has been destroyed.

20 years ...! wow why is your soul destroyed to such a degree? I mean the 80's/90's recession was it worse?.......Or is it just time to retire...worked too hard too long

Its pretty awful out there but without hope were hopeless

well as for sould destroying, when i put myself through college i was taxy`ing to try and earn a keep till i got taken on in the industry. i earnt a grand total of NOTHING for 10 hours work. i managed to make my car rent and get the diesel back for what i had put in. now going home after ten hours graft to the wife and kids with a big zilch is soul destroying. and nothing you did or didn`t do could change the work you got. thankfully i got a chance to run a few re-wires for a guy i started to work for. so i got myself some qualified guys and tagged along for the experience and a better wage. :D how glad was i to get out of that game.
