Hi this is my first post so please be gentle,
Im fitting a wylex 100amp double pole isolator to the meter tails from the consumer side,
it may be a silly question, but is there a load side /supply side to this unit as it would suit me to come out of the top of the switch to feed the consumer unit & feed the switch from the bottom with the meter tails,
what im really asking can the switch be wired either way, what makes me ask this question is,a isolator in a consumer unit is wired with tails coming in at the top of the switch and the bottom feeds the bus bar,it would suit my install to fit the way i described above. thanks to anyone who replies.

Tonychitty. As far as I remember, the Wylex DP isolators have 'ON' and 'OFF' embossed on the actual red switch itself, so it wouldn't be good practice to introduce any confusion into the situation, for yourself, the homeowner and any other electrician working on the installation. So IMO, no. It would introduce a higher danger level than was there before you worked on it. Hope this helps.

By the way, welcome to the forums (excuse my manners!).

Yeh im sure they say on and off on them as well actually on the red switch part.

For identification purposes and safety I would advise to wire it the right way, although we should test dead before we start, if someone who isnt competent has a go themselves at something they could be in for a nasty shock if all they are doing is a visual check!

Tonychitty, by the way, have you checked that your local supplier won't fit one for free for you? I called up npower the other day before a CU change and they came out and installed an isolator on the consumer side of the meter, and increased the size of the tails (up to the switch) to 25mm at my request. Didn't cost a penny.

Thanks for the reply,i called n-power last week they told me they would send some body from the imo(meterpeople)to pull their main fuse and that i would have to have an electrician fit one of these switches which i would have to pay for,i suppose i called the wrong person that day, so i went and bought one,it didnt cost a lot got one on e bay,my question is can this switch be wired any way round either through the top or bottom i know its double pole, the instructions that came with the switch does not say which way it should be wired,i would preferably like to feed the switch from the meter@ the bottom & feed the consumer unit out from the top.
