good morning everyone
in a few weeks time i will have a nice new 1000kva transformer sitting here , i have sent my incoming supply and outgoing supplys to crabtree to have a panel spec`d , but how do i spec the cable from the ct chamber to my panel itself ? i think its gonna be in a metal trunking , any help would be gratefully received

ady

If you’re planning on getting 7 X 500mm (cu) or 7 X 600mm (al) in trunking, best of luck, you’ll need it.
You would be better of looking at a pre-assembled busway or ladder rack with aluminium trefoil clamps.
1000KVA is 1333.4A, you ai’nt getting that in trunking easily. I’d be impressed if you did.

Cobrauk, handy PDF but it is for LV incomers. It peters out at 500A this will be 1600A MCCB or fuses.

Do Crabtree make breakers suitable for 1MVA Distribution Transformers?? I would have personally gone to someone like Schneider to have a panel spec'd, who also have an extensive range of breakers to develop such a panel for you...

why seven cables please , thought it would just be the normal 3 ph n + e coming from the ct cubicule as its seems to be called , a busbar system , now you mention it , sounds a good idea , thank you , cobrauk , do you have a 1000 kva document , yours goes to 300 , please

You'll probably need to parallel the tails off the TX, Even trying to work 600 or 500mm cables is going to be a real work-out for you...lol!!! What tony is calculating is 2 X 500/600mm per phase plus a neutral ...so 7 cables in all!!!
I think you'll probably be better off looking at increasing the number of parallel conductors, to reduce the installation hassle you'll have trying to bend set these large conductors onto connections at both the TX and the Switchboard....

ok , thats also a good idea , sounds like its gonna be fun , which ever way i end up doing it , thank you for the replys , i`ll keep in touch on what goes on and how n when

ady :)
