Had a call the other day as a customer wanted his solar thermal panels removed as he was fitting PV, sacrilege.

Anyway, the company that had been out to quote was doing his friends install up the road.

I popped up there to have a chat and his nephew was there, the guy had signed a contract for £10k for a 4kW Enphase system, I nearly fell over.

The customer has been pushed into it by the salesman, I told him worst case it shouldn't be anymore than £8k.

Now to be fair the install was meant to be going ahead Yesterday (friday), the nephew cancelled on the thursday after a nasty phonecall with the sales manager. They still turned up on Friday even though a cancellation notice had been emailed into them.

To get the story short, the company is saying that if he cancels the cancellation charge will be 70%!!!!

I've checked the real guidance and this is obscene, am I right in thinking they can only charge for actual work done and it all has to be a reasonable costings.

They've done an EPC and Tech Survey

Advise greatly recieved

One other thing, on the SAP calculation the company used 18p as the customers unit rate, this is miss selling is it not?

Was the cancellation within the 7 day cooling off period?

If not, the the company can claim reasonable costs if I recall correctly.

OR if a case can be made for miss selling (not sure if unit rate of 18p would be) then he should contact RECC asap. Had he paid a deposit?

Yep, he originally was badgered into having it on finance but didnt want it that way so paid 25%, I think I have an angle on the miss selling side with the 18p unit rate used. The nephew has emailed the company cancelling so will see what comes back on it, failing all that, I chargeback on the card he used might be in order
