I have a 10mm 4 core glanded into a length of conduit buried in the wall, around 2 metres in length, I tested continuity between all cores and galv conduit and it's perfectly clear, however when I tested IR it failed between 2 cores and conduit. Am I missing something here or does it simply need replacing? Cheers

is either core earthed? are you getting a false reading from a neutral to earth due to parallel paths?

possibly not picking up fault on continuity due to low test voltage,if your doing IR test them you have 500 volts going through, try doing your continuity using the same setting as your IR test it,s suprising what doesn,t show on a continuity that an IR picks up.thats why we do IR test at twice the working voltage. hope this clears things up

If the IR is low or you get a dead short, check if they haven't driven a nail through. ... or any bare leads touching the galvanised conduit.

Cheers guys the cable ain't terminated either side, I ran it in myself, I dont know what prompted me to test it in the first place but kinda glad I did, I guess I'm gonna have to replace it though since the insulation ain't upto scratch, just can't see why it would fail IR unless it's a manufacturing issue?
