Went down to the farm yesterday and they are erecting a new building approx 8mtrs from an 11Kv overhead line, the farmer comes out and says he,s been on to the network people as for the last 12 months they have been on about moving the line and he has rung them this morning and finally they are coming out to do something as he,s told them its in the way of the work.Oh dear I knew the outcome wasn.t going to be as he expected so I went to see what the fuss was about,2 lads working with a telehandler with a cage on up in the air at most 2mtrs from line.As I am telling them to stop work and come down the man from SPN arrives takes one look and went mental.I told him I was trying to stop job due to proximity to line,he produces a copy of HSE guidance notes re proximity to overhead lines, then issues them with a notice to cease work, next thing farmers son comes out and starts ranting at his dad for ringing SPN as job is now stopped, poor bloke from SPN is trying to get his paperwork signed and the lads are stood there looking rather sheepish.I ended up siding with SPN chap re H&S issues and everybody ends up arguing, would have been so funny if it wasn,t for the fact that they seemed blissfully unaware of the danger they were in.
