If you are planning on installing a standard 16A 110Volt socket outlet to a normal 230V single phase installation is there anything different you have to do than if you were installing a 230V socket? i thought the socket itself incorporated the transformer to take the voltage down to 110 or is this not correct?

Unless the socket is attached to a transformer you need to fit a transformer for the 110v socket.

Your cheapest route is a standard yellow site transformer just plugged into the 230v ring otherwise it might get expensive depending on installation existing.
Last one i did was a 40kva transformer feeding a several 110v sockets through a dedicated 110v dist- board each radial fused individually.

okay thanks.are you not able to buy a transformer to fit within the existing D/Board or something similar to supply the socket with 110Volts though?

cheers darkwood, i was under the impression you could get a transformer to change the voltage quite cheaply but yeah think they will need to just make do with a portable site transformer.

No you can't buy one to fit in a DB as it is a big bugger to give out 16 A
