Hi there,

I have 3 Phase in my Workshop, with a few Machines, recentlybought a new machine, but found out the Socket is bigger that I was gong to it into, as my other Welding Machinethat fits into this is only 8 Amp, can I get a Socket to fit into this, thatwill that have an 8 and 16 Amp points on that I can then Plug my Welder intoOne and the other Machine in the other ??? If that’s not possible, can I Wireup from One of the other Boxes that come off the main board, or will I have torun a Wire from the main board itself ??? Thx for your Time and help.

Hi there,

It’s a very old machine; only know it’s called a wikstrom. Lucky in the photo you can see the plug. So there is nobox like I said above like the 110 that fits in a 240 ???

Its a 3 phase plug on there.

What colour is your socket on the wall?

Ok thx all, will get it done with a Sparky. But I was wondering, you know when you have a 110 Drill, plug it into the 110 converter box, theOnes you need on Site Work, then you plug the 110 converter box into the 240,well I was hoping that there was a box that I could plug into the 8 Amp socketI all ready have, and then plug my 8 Amp Welder and my new 16 Amp machine intothis, is there anything like that about please ??? As the price I was givenjust to run a lead out 3m with a 16 Amp socket on was ÂŁ290, thought it wouldonly be about ÂŁ50. My fault, as when I seen the machine and it said 3 Phase, Idid not know there were different size plugs on these, thought they were allthe same.

What you want to do is read what Darkwood has said here, if the manufacturer says OK then this is the easiest solution, however it could be dangerous to do without confirmation.

Have you contacted the manufacturers of the machine?
If so have you asked them if replacing the 16amp plug with a 32amp would be ok.... as i said its quite possible the machine can be classed as a fixed load item or may have internal overload protection....

ÂŁ1 phone call may save you a fortune.... or can you supply a link to the machine you have bought?
You state some strange values in your posts that do not seem to match with the UK power supply standard sockets and plugs, so it is important that you do know what you are talking about before getting anything changed.

If you wanted a plug in solution then power distribution boxes are available that may provide what you want, however they will cost in the region of ÂŁ250, so a permanent solution would be a better answer.

Talk to the person from whom you got the initial price and ask them if they can correctly and within the regulations and safety requirements of the easiest solution to your problem. If they cannot then find someone who can advise you.

That seems a good idea, will take a close up photo of the plug on the machine to see if there I anything I can buy.

Sounds like you only have single phase wired upto your so called socket fella. Thats a 3 phase plug on the pic of the machine. Im guessing your welder if single phase if its a blue plug. Or could it be european and 2 phase. You need to give us more information. What socket have you got in your premisis.

take a pic of it,

Im getting all confused ....
Either take photos or print what amp rating, colour and pin number you existing wall outlet is, then same for the welder plug and the machine plug then at least we have some relevant info to go on... their are a number of size, rating and ampage available and without more info it all guess work.

Box which we have ran off the main Board Years ago, this is he Plug coming from the 3 Phase Welder, and as you know fits into the Plug coming from the Box you can see. Was hoping I could plug something into the Plug coming from the Wall, and put back in the Welder Plug and the new machine.

With the Wires you just seen, these are going Several Yardsto this box, that we tried to connect the machine, but no luck, but as yousaid, this box could only be 2 Phase.

By the look of that lot I would get a spark in an start again You have asbestos flash pads in that switched fuse which are ok as long as you don't disturb them, but that is about the safest part of the installation .

Yes it is a bit old, done about 25 Years ago, but all Works fine and as we do not employ anyone, we are ok. Sorry it is a bit rough, but as all have been Working for all these Years, we just have not changed.

As per above from Dave. Swap to a 63A outlet and problem goes away. What gets plugged into it is not part of an inspection.
