Hi i recently went to a job for a partial rewire, it's a 16th ed board, 3 circuits RCD protected 6 not RCD protected. They want to keep the existing board. I will replace some of the MCBs on the unprotected side with RCBOs for the new circuits, would this be compliant? Even though some existing circuits are still not protected by RCDs? Any clarification would help, thanks

Good method, no problem.

Thanks biff for a fast response. So i take it thats compliant. With regards to filling out the EIC would i note down all the circuits and only test my newly installed ones?
Only new circuits necessary but good idea to list 'existing'. Check particulars at origin are OK.

or just drop in an RCD for the unprotected ways (assuming you have 2 ways spare that is)...this would be a cheaper option...
dont forget to IR test the unprotected finals will you though beforehand for dielectric strength and borrowed/shared neutrals etc...
just because the board is 16th doesn`t mean the install is....

Thanks for your replies. The problem is I think the existing circuits would trip a RCD as the wiring is very old, since the 16th board was installed a couple of the RCD protected circuits do trip on occasions the owner says. Regardless of this they dont want this seen to yet because of the disruption rewiring the whole house would cause and only want one half of the house rewired, for the time being. So i will need to put the new circuits on RCBOs as they are sited in the unprotected side of the board. Once it's all rewired it will all be RCD protected. Sorry if i sound pedantic but are all existing circuits to be recorded on the schedule of test results? And in the extent of installation covered section list only my new circuits?

On the SoTR list circuits 1 to 9 with their labelling (cooker, etc.) but only provide test and inspect results for the circuits you change. Line through the boxes that are blank or put 'circuit not changed' so that other results cannot be "added" later!
