I have a customer who wants a new ring main upstairs and also downstairs lighting circuit..

He has a Split load board (16th), At present everything in the house is on the RCD side of the board, except the lighting circuit.

Now when i add a new lighting circuit this will of course be going on the RCD side. Leaving the upstairs on its own, on the main switch side.

There will be 3 RFC's on the one RCD side, Upstairs, Downstairs, and Kitchen.

This is obviously Not ideal, I could advise him on having a new Dual RCD board but he doesnt HAVE to right??

How far do you go with additions before you have to change the CU, obviously you cant keep putting all Additions on the RCD side as you would end up with an empty main switch side.. Is just the one existing lighting circuit left there acceptable?

You could always use an rcbo on the same side as the lighting circuit, & if the cutomer wants to comply with the 17th also change the other lighting mcb for an rcbo (assuming chases are <50mm deep)

Alternatively how much for an 30mA main rcd? : Wylex 80amp about ÂŁ35.00, Wylex 100amp about ÂŁ53.00 in screwfix

Its Nasty Square D... CU & MCB's. I prob best idea would be to buy an additional 30mA rcd, But i cant use this as the main incomer can i... I need the Main switch, then the RCD's, right?
Just as the way you buy dual RCDs boards.

I've just thought about what i just asked!

Doh!!

Its clear to me now... I didnt think before i opened my trap

In my opinion replacing the consumer unit and waiting to see which RCBO trips is not a good fault finding technique. If the lighting circuit...
