my employer is niceic registered and got his 17th edition, ive got 2 questions if u can help me out!

1. im 16th edition qualified and got my 2391 inspection and testing can i still fill in the certificates for him and can he counter sign them knowing i havnt got the 17th?

2. is there a date u need to get the 17th edition regs done by to practise being an electrician?

The 17th has been out for quite some time and it is in the interest for all electricians to update as the regs change

The Nic did give a rediculously long time for the 17th to be a requirenment I believe it is 2010
As long as his registration is in force, he is the named QS and that is that He can sign away

You can fill out the certificates if you had no qualification whatsoever,as long as the QS oversigns

This is another example of how out of touch with practical reality the present day Niceic Qs system remains
Why dont they have the decency to come clean and scrap it as soon as possible

so basically im gonna have to do the 17th myself because i dont think he will be too bothered about putting 2 of of us thru the regs, it sounds crazy that even tho ive got the experience but not totally knowing the 17th he can sign off jobs without even knowing its done correctly by his employees!

Well it's also his job to carry out 'toolbox' talks with you making sure that he knows that you know and are competent to carry out the testing and fill in the reports.

It'll be he (as he is the QS) who will be responisible for the content of the cert.

This is why there are companires with one QS per 50 employees, who are all unqualified and CHEAP!
