HI lads.

Really must do this, been putting it off for ages.

DO I have to do the full course? Can I do just the exam.? Anyone recommend a good venue? I'm in Manchester Near Sale and Altrincham... Grrrr money money money...

If you have 16th you can do the shorter update course. I know what you're thinking though because anyone who fails that course needs to ask themselves some serious career questions

Hopefully found an update 1 day course 175£ plus dreaded (includes buffet apparently.)
but asks for 16th dated 2001, (sat mine in 98)
Have 2391 sat in 98 too.
I feel it ll be a no-no, and need to do the full 3 days, waste my time in a cinch of a class, lose out on 3 days pay... No way will i do it at the local college, 12 weeks once a week... Joke.

Yep, 2382-20 1 day course for those who have sat the 2381 post June 2001
2382-10 3-4 day course for those who have either not achieved the regs course or pre-2001 regs.

As I recall NICEIC, NAPIT and ELECSA are pretty stringent about obtaining up to date quals.
You could of course chat up the exams administrator and just sit the exam. :winkiss:

some colleges will allow you to take the exam on it's own.others insist on doing the course. contact your local colleges and ask.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news boys, BUT........After the 1st of October 2011, the update course has ceased to be.
The 17th is now done from the new amended regs, the big green book, so irrespective of when you did the 16th edition you will now have to do the mind numbing full 17th edition regs course.

Cheers........Howard

But if you already have the 17th, is there an update for just the new amendments, or are we required to sit the whole thing again?

Cheers

From the C&G website

Will the existing 2382 assessments (units 100 and 200) be updated?
No, the existing qualifications still assess knowledge of BS 7671:2008 (the red book), and will notreflect amendments made in the 2011 ‘green book’.

Is there an ‘update’ qualification for the 1st amendment?
No, there is no ‘update’ or ‘short’ version of this qualification. All candidates wishing todemonstrate knowledge of BS 7671:2008(2011) must sit the 2382-12 qualification.

What that means is anyones guess, I really hope it doesn't mean you have to do another exam as I only did my 17th yesterday

EDIT Just read elsewhere that our current 17th is good, though no doubt i'll see something conflicting later

as advised previously, i sat the exam only at scottish power's training centre in cumbernauld recently for £45.
i sat my 16TH IN 1990!

POINT BEING IF YOU READ C & G AND NECEIC SPIEL THEY ONLY RECOMMEND YOU DO THE FULL COURSE IF YOU SAT YOUR 16TH PRIOR TO 2001 AS THEY HAD A LEGAL CHALLENGE I BELIEVE FROM THE IET AS TO WHY THEIR MEMBERS SHOULD HAVE TO FORK OUT HUNDEREDS OF POUNDS FOR AN AMENDMENT.

AND IN RESPONSE IF THEY RECOMEND WE DO A COURSE FOR AMENDMENT 1 (£160 FROM NECEIC INCLUDING LUNCH)
WE SHOULD BOYCOTT THE LOT OF THEM.THAT SHOULD BE THE NEXT CAMPAIGN AFTER WE SORT OOT THE BIG EIGHT.

No obligation to resit the 17th edition, unless you feel obliged too,its only ammendments,so i wont for sure, anyhow, back to the op dillema,if the local collage are happy for you to sit the exam on its own then why not.I would imagine that you have been using the 17th since 2008 anyway.

I have just rang a local training provider, and they are not working with the ammended regs until after they come into effect in January. Luckily they will let me take my exam with questions pertaining to the red book. They are also still running the update course from the 16th, so it might be worth looking around.
