Hey one and all.

Just a heads up to say if any of you are due to do the regs course, make sure you are signed up to do the 2382-12, and not the 2382-10 or 2382-20.
I've just ordered and run the exam myself as a guinea pig and it's all up and running to do the exam for the new green book.

Some training centres may still be waiting for confirmation from C&G (however C&G are not very good at keeping us informed) so may still be sitting the 2382-10.
If the centre search on the walled garden for the product code 2382-12, it is there to be purchased and delivered.

City & Guilds have stated that there is no update course, and only doing the 2382-12 will prove knowledge of the new amendment.

This was taken from page 5 of the attached FAQ.

This would mean sitting another 60 question exam, I've done that this evening (gotta do something with this X factor nonsense on telly) and the questions are very similar to those from the original 2382-10 pool, with the addition of some others.

hha i agrree mate thanks for that. I think it may be good to do the update but seeing as i have recently sat a few exams (17th and my 2391 passed happy days) i think i will leave it for now but obviously part of our trade is continuing education i will probably sit it in the future when it will benefit me but good to knoe cheers mate

Hi, I have the 16th 2381 and was looking to update to 17th edition and have bought the green book with the amendment.....will it still be a one day course to update to the 17th edition? As the amendment doesnt include many changes really from the 2008 does it?

That will probably depend on if you received your 16th late enough to have qualified for the 2382-20 or not.
If you were lined up to do the 2382-20 then there will be a big change in that there will be 60 questions (2 hours) on the 2382-12 unlike the 30 questions (1 hour) on the 2382-20.
There are many changes structurally to the new amendment but each training centre/college will deliver the course accordingly. The city and guilds guidance learning hours are supposed to remain the same as the prior 2382-10 (something like 35hrs).

I'll be posting some of the questions I've had tonight possibly tomorrow so you can have a look and consider for yourself weather you feel a quickie course will suffice for you or not.

Widdler strictly come dancing was on the other side you could have saved yourself.

With a wife and a 6 month old teething baby boy here mate it would appear that when it comes to the Man of the house having the remote control, I'd be better off in the pub. But I'm on duty so stuck and sober.

I've been looking on the internet about this update as I was going to get my 17th Ed 2382 exam sorted before christmas, from what i've found they appear to say that there isn't an update exam but you have to be aware and use the updated regs to comply, there's a bit of info here - 17th Edition Amendments

Read the FAQ I've attached above.

The link you've provided doesn't mention the additional training, just the info itself. Many centres havn't got the latest information, only one of this forums sponsors, for example, have the proper data.

The key words being 2382-12

Yep it's clearer now, so really there's not much point in sitting the 2382-10 exam at the moment, is there an update sheet as such for the Red regs (that i've just got) or will I have to go out and now get the Green regs book to sit the 2383-12 ??
Sorry if it's in the info above and i've missed it.

TBH it depends on what you've been told.
If the training centre have told you this is the current course and supplied you with the red regs book as recently as since September then this is not the case.
Simply put, from the 1st January the 2382-10 will be an old qualification for a book no longer in compliance, and the 2382-12 which will be compliant till at least 2014 is up and running now.

If you are receiving the red book since September then you should be switching to the green for certain. This transition period between the opening of the 2382-12 and the closing of the 2382-10 is for training centres to complete open registrations on the older course, not to carry on delivering it.

I was under the impression the 2382-10 will still be valid? I can't see how an amendment is necessary to retake a whole course?

The 16th went through two amendments did you have to take another two exams then?

Couple of articles i've found on it

http://www.partp.co.uk/downloads/Spark_May2011.pdf

How the changes made to BS7671 17th edition amendment 1 effect you | My Local Electrician

Which best be the case as I took mine on Friday

EDIT and from the IET http://electrical.------.org/wiring-matters/index.cfm issue 39 FAQ for amendment 1

Do you have to update your training?
At present anyone who has completed a 17th Edition course does not have to do any new training as there is no formal update qualification like there was for the transitionfrom the 16th to the 17th Edition. The IET 17th Edition course will be updated to reflect the Amendment 1requirements.

I never said you had to retrain, I said that existing training being offered is now out of date.
Read everything before posting nonsense again.

Maybe if you didn't post ambiguous nonsense like this Simply put, from the 1st January the 2382-10 will be an old qualification for a book no longer in compliance, and the 2382-12 which will be compliant till at least 2014 is up and running now

The 2382-10 will still be compliant till 2014 as well
