Not yet the first small one which is downloadable from iee website is more a correction of grammer than anything else. I believe the first proper amendment is due out in about 12 months consoltation is going on at the moment for it.

Amendment No 1. is due next year. The Corrigendum is not an amendment - they are simply corrections.

Hi all,

Are we sure it will be next year? Have seen one or two things mentioned from some people but nothing definite.

Does anyone know how much is going to change?

Thanks,

Best wishes

Rex

Nothing is 100%.

It will be when they announce it.

No doubt the changes will have some link to the amendments to the building regs that are coming into force in October.

And it looks confirmed that there WILL be the new regs book to buy, which, as you may know, is now called the IET wiring regs.

hey

Ammendment 1 of the 17th edition is available to download now off the IET website

Most of the changes are subtle.

There are big changes planned with the layout of Certificiates. worth a look if ur interested

It's all a ****ing money making racket!!! And it puts barriers in the way of electricians trying to find gainful employment!!! The mobs should be paying for all this training anyway and these short spark courses and training providers should be booted into touch!!! There's going to be civil war on construction sites between real sparks and mickey mouse ones soon!!! JOIN THE UNION BOYS!!!

I thought that until my meeting at the IET last week for the Guidance Note 3 amendment.

So many of the 790 changes to BS7671:2008 were forced by having to align to the Euro Harmonised Document, most of the others simply missed the cut-off deadline for BS7671:2008

The problem is that technology and our understanding changes so quickly-can you believe that only a comparatively small time ago we bonded window frames, ceiling grids, stair hand rails etc. etc. ?

I read through the (almost) complete new edition with all amended text in red and the fact that almost every page has some alteration answered my question of "why can't we just add a few amended sheets to our red books?"

As for the union, they couldn't even get an agreement from the JIB on 2011 wage rates never mind organise a revolution!

Why not have an objective look rather than a knee jerk reaction. So for example you as a good honest spark will RCD protect an extension to a lighting circuit with a chased cable, because that's what the regs say and so you do the right thing to do. The cheap spark doesn't because he doesn't care he gets the job because he's cutting the cost by doing the job "wrong". You look like you are an expensive conman and you will almost always look wrong in the customers eyes because you are the one trying to get more money out of them!

I believe this changes in the new regs so you do not need to fit the RCD protection, however you can always suggest it might be wise to fit. This way you are both honest, professional and don't look like you are trying to rip the old granny off.

Strangely the new amendment mean you can compete again and do the job "by the book" on more equal terms. You may well get more work so you might actually find, if you can get past the cost of a book, that actually its good for both you and the industry.

The clause on assessing the risk of a circuit extension/alteration without RCD protection did not make the final amendment.
