I am looking at buying a 17th edition board with 100A DP isolator and two RCD's both at 80A.
I am wondering if it is common for these RCD's to be double pole IE they switch both live and neutral or if I want this facility do I have to buy a special board?
I understand that if I want double pole RCBO's I must specify this as the everyday standard seems to be single pole but as far as a bog standard 17th edition board goes I do not know the normal everyday Joe standard.
Will I have to specify I want double pole RCD board or will the board come with them as standard?
Thanks.

RCD's yes but most RCBOs are not.

But why do you NEED it to be DP?
Because I may fit a 100ma Rcd at the incomer although I have not yet decided.
It's a TT system.
I don't want a neutral fault in one of the downstream circuits to trip this 100ma RCD.
I've been reading a bit about it tonight it just seems the sensible thing to do.

P.S. I don't pretend to know a lot of what the original poster in the above thread is going on about, it's just the RCBO side of things that caught my eye.
I was mainly concerned with RCBO's but then I thought I would ask about RCD's too.

I you have all the circuits already protected by 30ma RCDs then whats the reason for the proposed 100ma rcd at the incomer---will the new consumer unit be metal or insulated construction. if you fitted an upstream rcd in the tails before a metal consumer unit,it would have to be time delayed in order to provide earth fault discrimination---are you proposing to install it yourself ?

sparkylad.

I'm not planning on installing a 100ma RCD because the board is insulated and has two 30ma RCD's on it and the metre tails are in good order.
It was kind of a technical question really.
I just like the idea of RCD's being double pole. Switching off both Phase and Neutral.
I mean by reading and discussng things tonight I have learnt that two pole RCBO's are far superior to one pole.
The way I was taught to wire by my old skool boss is allways to look to the future and the possibilties that may arise.
