Hello all,

I'm going back to college to do the 17th edition exam (3day course) soon.

I've got the IET wiring regulations BS 7671 (green book) and just started reading through it as i've already been told its about finding the answers in the book rather than knowing the book its self.

If anyone could give me some advise on what i should be reading up on and taking notes on it would help...

Thanks for your time.

welcome along , im doing the course soon too so il be interested in this thread. just get use to the tables would be one thing and if you go to page 433 and have a read through them and see what you think will be helpfull, . read the contents page too, and the intex at back, thats what im working off and trying to find things. gl.

once you get over the shock at how complex the book looks, its a rather easy exam

all the preparation our class did was go through sample questions. And of course put tags in so you can flip to certain sections more easily

A lot of peeps say, and swear by tabbing the book, i started doing this and found i had far too many tabs they were more of a hindrance. In the end went ito the exam and never even looked at the tabs i had put on!!!!!!!!its got a brilliant index, use it...I passed:smile5:

i tabbed heavily and made excessive use of the blank note pages at the back of the book but ended up not really using it.

a few tabs can help and are more there for convenience rather than a "cheat." The time given in the exam is adequate to easily clear all the questions. And if you cant use the index at the back then no amount of tabs will help you.

Its all about navigating the book to find the answers. Dont try to study the charts in the BRB, instead get familiar with finding your way around it. There are a few online samples you can try, just search for them. The exam is a multiple choice online exam, so worst case, if you start to run short of time then make an educated guess. I have invigilated a few of the 17th exams, and i have yet to see anyone fail it. You must read the questions properly as just like any other C&G exam they mix the wording up a bit just cos they can.

Cheers...........Howard
