Hi everyone, I just wanted some of your opinions about weather or not I should do the 17th edition. I'll just tell you my situation in breif first and hope you can advise me.

I have finished my C&G 2330 levels 2 and 3.
I have a small amount of electrical experince as a 'mate' but not a great deal.

I am wondering if I should do the 17th edition now or wait untill I find more regular work in the trade. The reason I ask is because with the new 2357 coming in after new year will the 17th edition qual still be relevant or will it be encorporated some how into the new 2357 qual ?

My understanding is that if I do the 17th now which will see me up untill christmas I can then start to hunt like mad for some work and hopefull the fact that I'll have the 17th will broaden my chances ? Or will it ? Is the 17th worthless without an NVQ 3 ?

After christmas I'll have the 2330 L2 and L3 and the 17th. Surely this looks better than not having it ?

What would you do in my shoes guys, would you do the 17th in September or not bother? I'm aware that this probably sounds like a bit of a daft question but I'd just like some advise. Thanks in advance

Just a little tip, google jobs for electricians, mates, improvers etc and see how many ask for 17th! ie PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE ONE!

Theres your answer :)

Thanks for the fast reply mate, wasnt sure if it would still be relevant after the new 2357 arrives in the new year tho but yea I get what your saying I think I'm just going do it lol

Hi mate,
I would if i was you as a lot of employers ask for the 17th and most also ask for 2391
I am 40 and tried to get back into the game for years but because i never finished my apprenticeship ( through being a stupid 16 year old know it all) . I then returned dong new build on site between 88and 92 then the recession hit no work so had to sign on then lots of low paid manual type work getting nowhere. all through the years always regretted not finishing apprenticeship so after my Mrs was left disabled in 2005 and then me having to become her full time carer all the time being asked of people to do jobs for them decided to get some quals.for the last 20 years tried to get back into apprenticeship or similar was always told there was no help even more so now i am a carer dole wont help because i am a carer not on there figures and all they say is you dont have to work good if you dont want to work or get anywhere in life
so after my dad died in 2007 I paid for a private 6 week training course for ÂŁ4020 which included training,C&K toolkit, Megger 1552, bs7671, On - site guide, C7G 2382-10, 2377, 2393, and logic full and defined scope level A,B,C award and recently i did a 8 week evening course for 2391 june exam still waiting nervously
So in answer to your question I would deffo do the regs as you have to be able to find your way around it and to know your work complies with it plus employers will look more favourably upon you
dont think the 17th is being incorporated into 2357 just 2330 and nvq 2356 as far as i know but others may Know better

no the 17th won`t be incorporated into the 2357. the 2330 had as part of the course naturally the 17th and so will the 2357 but you would then just need to do the 30 q`s update. the more you can put on a cv the better the chance and the more you can prove your competence

Hi Stoke123,

I used to teach this course and would say that it is worth it. The regulations form a good part of competancy for the puposes of the law so like others I would suggest that if you can take it.

Best wishes,

Rex

I did my 2330 lvl 3 last year then did the 17th edition update course a month after. Pretty easy aswell, got about 96%. Its an open book exam and you should have learnt most of it in your 2330. Defo do it but alot of employers are also asking for the 2391 aswell. Thats my next step.

Good luck
