Do all new main board changes need to be on duel rdc or rcob, even if you don't do any other work in the house (apart from upgrading the bonding) . There is not enough space in the cupboard for a 17th edition board i will need to install two four way boards on top of each other. I know rcobs would be the best option, But for cost would it be up to regs to install a 60amp rcd to each board in line with the tails.

Hey,

It's all rubbish. This dual RCD board thing to meet 17th Edition should be abolished. The purpose is to make sure all circuits comply with requirements, so for ease of installation, and to save costs, dual RCD boards tick the boxes.

RCBOs is best !!! Charge the client that little bit more but doing so avoids nuisance, inconvenient, tripping of circuits. Why should an earth fault on a toaster knock out the lights, and the boiler, and the outside socket, and the bathroom heater, and . . . .

Also - you should not use an RCD ( like those found in dual RCD boards ) as a main switch, unless it is specifically designed for that purpose. It should be installed following some form of isolating switch.

Also, if you install two boards, you will need to install a means of being able to isolate both boards at the same time - some kind of switched fuse is needed.

Chocs away !!!!

I have already installed the mains boards around a year ago with my old company they have since gone brankrupt. I want to use the job to show the NIC ( I know you should should show a job you have done your self since going alone but its famliy so I will say it was done last month) it is a good instalition all bonding was upgraded. But there are no rcd's or rcbos in the house, I will pay my self to get the job up to regs. Could I install a 100 amp rcd in line on the tails to the mains boards or will I have to change the breakers to rcbos.
I need the job to be spot on as I really need my part p. to get more work

many thanks

I may be having a brain fart, I didnt think you had to have a dual RCD board unless you have a TT system.

Obviously the design of the circuits depict if the circuit has to be on an RCD.

I guess its easyer to just install all curcuits rcd protected to save hassle of 'Mechanical protection' etc.?
