hi im sitting my 17th edition update on thursday and was wondering wether it was ok just to have an osg to take into the exam or do i need the big red book. Also is it really worth revising for this exam as all the answers are in the book????

feedback much appreciated.

no u defo need the regs to sit the exam if u know how to read the regs they would be no reason to revise i had the worst hangover ever when i took my test and passed

You should be given a "Clean" copy of the regs when you go in for your exam anyway - this is to ensure no cheating takes place (however I take cheating as being able to find the answer written somewhere lol)

As said, you need the regs as the exam is not based on what you know but on where you know to go in the BRB for the appropriate reg to the pertaining question.

Is that the same book that you can't decide whether to take into the exam?

is it realy worth revising , the answer if you want to pass it yes it may only be an update but belive you me you dont get long to do it and yes you are right all the answers are in the book ,all you have to do is find them , simple ye right , when i did my update course the lecturuer even told the class dont worry if you fail , and its harder these days all on PC so you have to page back to check the answers not like the old days where you could turn a page , and when the time is gone the time is gone

You need a BRB,and you need to know your way around it,you can write whatever you like in it and highlight anything you like to make finding stuff easier......if you know how to navigate the BRB you will pass,if you dont you wont.

I reckon if you have to start thumbing thru the book for anything more than about half the questions you are going to run out of time!!

wirepullers spot on, just take your own copy with your own highlighted bits it doesn't matter, as long as you can find your way round the book you will be able to get the answers to the odd questions you don't already know (there will be some :) ). When i did mine, one young lad (cocky) zipped through it and waltzed off with 1/2 hour to go, all cock sure. He just passed (but passed). another chap was triple checking answers at the bell still, and got 100%. Ok a pass is a pass but I'd rather pass with 100% than 82%.

Good luck :)

took my update last week, you will need:- your big red book, a calculator, photo id. a clean note pad and pen.

You will not be alowed the onsite guide, any notes that are not written in your big red book, mobile phone or pocket computer.

You need to know where to find table etc quickly, go through all the questions quickly, flag any you are not sure of but tick one of the answers so if you run out of time you have a 25% chance of getting it right. I should take 15 mins to go all the way through. Then go back to the flaged ones and start searching the book.

as it the update you will only get questions on the items that have changed from the 16th you did, Part 7 normally gives a lot of questions.

Good luck.
