thanks!

the way round it is to teach yourself and just pay for the exam ?

Surely if you pass the exam then ... you passed the exam

So if I was you I would gem up like mad, practise practise practise (and of course make sure you fully understand all the changes) and then pay somewhere whatever-the-exam-price is

Depends on where you go really. I teach at three places, 2 of which do the 2382-10. 1 place charges ÂŁ440 plus VAT for 3 days, the other costs ÂŁ460 INCLUDING VAT and over 4 days.

I've just passed level 2 and my tutor says he shouldn't say it but just get the books and teach yaself.

Three books you should need,
17th exam success
Guidance study notes 17th edition
17th edition

The exam costs ÂŁ33 at Guildford college

reading any book for me is hard!this 1 looks like a blur!
anyways if i go to a course can i expect to pass after so long out of the game!

As long as you find tuition that helps translate it to English, you'll be fine. It'll be worth you checking out the places rep first, maybe ask guys on here where they've attended and how they found it?

I am currently doing the 17th in Essex , the full 10 week course including Book and the Exam was ÂŁ460.
Luckily my current employers are paying for it as part of retraining for redundancy package.

I do think that by cramming up on the web, downloading past papers and reading through the book you would stand a good chance of getting through it without the course.

Read the sticky on the forum about the 17th , plenty of helpful stuff in there including the easy reference guide to find your way around the book.

If you can use the index of a book your 9/10ths of the way there. Don’t rely on the on site guide you can’t take that in to the exam.
The job centre put me in touch with a training provider that paid my course fees. My god was it boring!
I’ve always done industrial, why in the name of god do I want to know about marinas or caravan parks.
There’s only one way I’d like to wire a caravan and it’s not in the 17th!

the course teaches you how to find the relevant reg in the book. if you struggle reading normal books then you'll defo need the course. there is a lot of info in there and you need to sift through all the irrelevant stuff to find the one line of text that the question is about. its a million times easier when you have been shown how to find what you are looking for

I just completed my 2330 level three and did the regs along side my 2330 on a ten week one evening per week course at walsall college for 250 pounds. I sat the exam after six weeks as I think you dont actually need to understand anything of electrics you just have to know how to find answers in the book so I think the course is a bit of a joke.

I would get some past papers which i probably have somewhere try them and just get familiar with the book as all the answers are in there. Its not really about depth and understanding IMO.

What do others think?
