Huh

Hi there! Just a query as i am new to all this! LOL

I have moved into my new property and have a single oven which is rated at 2.1kw (9.13 amps) which is wired into a junction box by 2.5mm H05 Cable which also has a 6kw (26 amps) hob wired to it by 6mm cable which thens runs off by 6mm cable to a cooker switch which is on a 45Amp fuse. Is this acceptable? I understand that it is with the fuse but the oven is obviously only suppose to be on a 13amp fuse. But with both together is under the fuse rating. My other worry was the size of the cable from the oven due to the hob rating???

Any feed back please guys?

Thankyou in advance!

Just to clarify you have from the cooker switch to a junction box 6mm cable then from the junction box to the hob is wired in 2.5 mm and 2 the oven is wired in 2.5 mm ,45 amp fuse is to high and should be a 32 amp Overload protective device (MCB/Fuse) , this depends on the installation method loading for this is ok 8.1 kw so what it should be from the cooker switch in 6 mm to a cooker connection plate then looped to a socket for the oven and from the cooker connection plate to the hob , when you take into account diversity this should be fine

As i read it, The cooker switch feeds a JB which in turn feeds a hob using 6mm and an oven using 2.5mm.The total demand not accounting for diversity would be 35 amps (oven + hob) so this sounds OK to me. I think the original poster was worrying that the fuse was too high for the oven but because the hob is on the same circuit there is no discrmination between the hob and oven. Have I read it correctly?

I see this done all the time, but it is not right. As previously mentioned the oven should be on own 13A fuse.

I often put the 45A switch with socket outlet in cupboard and plug oven into socket.

I think i've not worded my post very well. I was suggesting that the previous post of replacing the fuse size to 32 A was incorrect. I too agree that under fault conditions the 2.5mm cable is not protected sufficiently. Sorry for any confusion.:eek:

If we do a kitchen now yes i would install the oven on its own circuit , i have just done one oven plug on an oven so i tapped off the cooker outlet in 6mm and put a socket next to the cooker outlet hob was 4.5 kw oven 2.1 kw protected by a 32 amp mcb total load with out diversity 28.7 amps could not add diversity to the mother in laws she had every thing going every meal lol

Hi guys! WOW Thanks for the replies ;-)

Just to clarify ....

45A cooker switch ---> 6mm Cable ---> Junction box ----> 6mm Cable to Hob
Junction box ----> 2.5mm Cable to Oven

Oven = 2.1Kw
Hob = 6Kw

I understand the fuse rating is ok as the total load is around 35 amps but just confused as the oven on its own only reaches 9 amps and worried the oven cable may be too small due to the hob being in circuit?? Or am i just confusing my self and worrying for nothing??? LOL
:confused:
